    Dark water

After being here over the past couple of decades, I thought I’d seen everything this surf has to offer, but this coffee black water is a new one. I assume it’s outflow from the lakes after all the rain/storms? Does it last only a day or two, or weeks? Very different from the red algae, the...

I Need Your Annual Recommendations For New Restaurants.

Oh, and one more question. Is Uber a thing in SOWAL? Sure would like to avoid the parking challenge in Grayton Beach. And maybe have one more drink.

I Need Your Annual Recommendations For New Restaurants.

Thanks everyone! Are people liking the Surfing Deer? And did the chef from V Seagrove land anywhere close? Staying two weeks this year so planning on branching out.

I Need Your Annual Recommendations For New Restaurants.

We like casual atmosphere (sure don't want to tuck in my t-shirt;)) and very good food. Our regular spots have included Café Thirty-A, V Seagrove, the rooftop bar at B&A's, Red Bar, sometimes Hurricane Grill. We like eating at the bar at Great Southern. We still miss the awesome Rendezvous...

Hey, it's me again - on my annual search for that great SOWAL restaurant I've missed.

Great feedback! More than a few new names to check out. See you next week!

Hey, it's me again - on my annual search for that great SOWAL restaurant I've missed.

So SOWALians, what do you have for me this year? We tend to have pretty laid back meals, sometimes comprised only of multiple shared appetizers and nice wine or cold Red Stripes, and always looking for a nice beachy vibe. Over the years, our regular spots have included Cafe Thirty-A, Jean...

    lifeguards searching at Seaside

Very rough surf tonight - heroic work indeed. Pray for the comfort of the family.

Did I just see a manatee off the beach in Seagrove

I had my inflatable kayak just over the second sand bar and saw a large dark spot on the bottom just off to my right. As a rowed over it, it surfaced on my left, took a good look at me, went under me and surfaced for another look to my right. It then swam over for a look at a woman on a paddle...

    Need my annual restaurant recommendations

Crabby Steve's sounds VERY interesting and like my kind of place. We always grab shrimp from Goatfeathers for lunch on the beach, and I've remembered to take a steamer basket this year.

    Need my annual restaurant recommendations

Wow, its amazing how many new names I get every year, even for places that have been around a while. Is this the same Nick's I seem to remember from years ago? I guess we do need to try some of the east 30A options - I just haven't been sure where to start.

    Need my annual restaurant recommendations

Dear beach family - we're a week away from our annual trip to Seaside, and we're looking for some more restaurant recommendations  We tend to have leisurely meals, sometimes comprised only of multiple shared appetizers and nice wine or cold Red Stripes, and always looking for a nice beachy...

Please help me with my annual search for new restaurants.

On our way down in the morning. Thanks for the tips! Seems like years ago, there was a place that was on the second floor of a standalone building somewhere near Earstern Lake (on the south side of 30-A). I was thinkng that was Cafe Tango, but it was clearly something else. Did I dream it...

Seems I've read good things about Shorty's. The old D&K's spot, right?

Please help me with my annual search for new restaurants.

Only a week away from our annual trip to Seaside, and happily, the only oil of concern is in the fryer at B&A's (crisping up some sweet potato fries). I'm looking for some restaurant recommendations - we tend to have leisurely meals, sometimes comprised only of multiple shared appetizers and...

Please help like you do every year!

Thanks everybody. Cafe Tango has always been on my list to try, and somehow we've never made it. That will change this year. Also had added D&K - lots of great comments, and the key lime pie references iced it. Jambones sounds like a great change once we get fished-out. Should be better...

Please help like you do every year!

Just a week away from our 10th annual trip to SoWal, and I'm looking for your help again for restaurant recommendations. Our usual haunts (in no particular order) are Red Bar, Cafe Thirty-A, 331's (has it finally closed?), Bud & Alley's, and just because I need a crab fix and it's an annual...

Bud and Alley's Rooftop Bar Web Cam

Anybody gotten the webcam at the rooftop bar at Bud and Alley's to work properly? I've downloaded the software and changed security settings, but still no go (unless I click the "server push" or somesuch, then I get an exterior shot with some text).

Where can I buy diesel near Seaside?

Thanks guys. 331/98 will fit in nicely with my crabcake replenishment.

Where can I buy diesel near Seaside?

Usually stay in Seagrove and buy gas at the Tom Thumb by Cafe Thirty-A, but I'm driving a diesel now and need some info on availability. Thanks!

    Update on Eastern Shores?

When I was there the first of June, the was an insurance adjuster or inspector having a look around. Just wondering (now that its the one year anniversary of Dennis) if anything was going on rehab wise at building No. 1.

Cafe Thirty-A crab cakes - The winner!

Didn't try Tango. Looks like I better schedule my trip back. Also, if you ask them, you can get the crabcakes as a meal (two of 'em). Add a mojito martini and you'll swear you've touched the face of God.

Cafe Thirty-A crab cakes - The winner!

So in my recent contest of the battle of the crab cakes, Cafe Thirty-A won running away (sorry, Red Bar/331). Does anyone know how they cook them? They were so fluffy and perfectly formed, I got the impression they might actually be baked or broiled in a custard dish. Anyone got the goods?

    331 will close..........

I can't begin to describe what total crappolla this is! Here I sit in Dallas at 6:00pm on Saturday after a drive back from Seaside which began in the wee hours. Less than 24 hours ago, my family was enjoying our second meal of the week at 331, and excited that we had found a new place to add...

    Casual Recommendations?

Sounds like I've nearly filled up my dance card for lunches/dinners. Thanks everyone! And what the heck happened to Hurricanes? Is something else there? I used to sit there with a Red Stripe while my girls hit the little shops. It's always so sad when a bar goes away and you feel like you...

    Casual Recommendations?

Haven't heard of Seabar before. Will need to look into it. And is there a restaurant called 331? Seems I've seen it come up before, but I can't place it. Is it the place at the foot of the bridge at the bay that's run by the Red Bar or Shades people?

    Casual Recommendations?

Sorry to beat everyone down with the same old lame post, but I leave for SOWAL in a few hours and don't have time to do a proper search. Looking for something in the vein of Red Bar and the old Shades food and price-wise. For upscale, we go Cafe 30A, and B&A. Borago always seemed a little too...

    June Grass in Seaside

We also arrive Saturday. Photos look great - June grass doesn't look like anything a couple of well placed Red Stripe beers won't fix.

Any chance of finding affordable beach photographer?

Absolutely, Joe. It's the only way to capture the true "essence" of the beach. The best way to get that truely remarklable pic is to quietly fire off several hundred shots while everyone is being themself and having fun. Besides, who wants to waste a great vacation sunset "posing"...

Beach and condos West of Eastern Lake?

This photo was "borrowed" from Caroling and taken shortly after Katrina. We have stayed at Eastern Shores every year for a long long time, and were there just after Dennis last year. The beach access was not yet rebuilt, but there was a large man-made (and ugly) sandbar from scrapping, and...

    Bud & Alley's 20th Celebration this Friday the 20th!!

Time sure flies when you're eating five star food and wearing flipflops - heaven on earth. How about celebrating by finally giving up the recipe to Scott's BBQ shrimp?
