Point Washington Wood Sign | Beaches of South Walton

Loved those old wooden signs! Such a treasure. Loved posts and art from 2boemians, too!

I've been away from this board for a while and just checked in... Kurt's photos brought tears to my eyes!! Thanks so much for sharing your talent and your beautiful scenery. Looking forward to a nice visit in March.

Guess What I Saw This Morning???

A knowledgeable local on this board once said when you pass the second sand bar you have left "the beach" and entered "the ocean".

Camping in the works for Deer Lake SP?

I am completely against the idea of developing Deer Lake any further than it is now; however, St. Joe peninsula state park (tip of Cape San Blas) has wonderful camping facilities run by the park system. The campground spaces (tent and RV) and cottages stay booked. I have to believe they at...

    That is an awesome view!

    Zac Brown Band

I'm loving Colder Weather off the new CD. The lyrics have a Please Come to Boston vibe for me. I heard them perform this song at the Atlanta concert last May and liked it immediately. Also like Knee Deep because it is just plain funn and taps into my inner beach bum spirit. Makes me want...

State Parks on the cutting block

Again?? :bang: We've been here before. I don't see how Deer Lake can be an expensive endeavor to operate. The $3 entry fee gets you a dirt parking lot, a potty, and a nice board walk. Nature does the rest. Looks like another letter-writing campaign is needed here.

    Article - JOE: A tale of 2 developments | Einhorn?s presentation

Kurt is correct. Once upon a time, Port St. Joe was a sustainable, blue collar, working community with industry independent of tourism. That's no longer true. Now that portion of the Forgotten Coast badly needs vacationers in order to put food on the table, but it can't seem to capitalize on...

Anyone have a favorite rental to recommend?

Me too! I love planning the trip. I build little spreadsheets of properties, costs, location, pros, cons, rental company.... I send my hubbie links and pictures. He has tired on of this though, and now says "just pick what you want".

    Inlet Beach rental question -

I will definitely keep this in mind. I did not know the "back roads" of Inlet Beach connected to Rosemary. I only know I do not want to bike with my kids on 98.

Anyone have a favorite rental to recommend?

We have always stayed gulf front - Eastern Shores 3 times (always in the west building), Mistral either 2 or 3 times and Blue Tide once. We also rented a 4 BR condo with family in Seagrove a few years ago. All the units were in good shape. I do recall that Mistral needed some attention on...

The Natural Beauty of South Walton

I agree. I have been fortunate to see a few turtles on St. Joe Bay but not lucky enough to have the camera ready when they appeared. Thanks for sharing! Also thanks to Will for the photography suggestions. I have a new Canon EOS Rebel - still learning how to use it properly. I really need...

    Inlet Beach rental question -

Thanks! Looks like a great rental, but we want access to the 30A bike path without biking on 98.

    Inlet Beach rental question -

If a property is decribed as being in Inlet Beach - is it off of 30A or 98? Or could it be either? Thanks.

    Varments in Magnolia

I am more fearful of snakes than gators or bears. And I bet snakes are more plentiful on and around 30A than gators, bears and bobcats combined. All of nature's creatures have a place - I just want to stay out of their way!

Four Bears Spotted on Satinwood Drive

I am more fearful of snakes than bears. I recognize that this is not logical, but I've had some unfortunate snakey experiences. My bear sightings have all ended with the bears (i) being smaller than expected and (ii) running the other direction.

New Tortugas Coastal Cafe - Gulf Place

My daughter and I had burgers there yesterday. We needed a quick lunch before hitting the road to drive home. It fit the bill nicely and the burgers were good. Lots of fries. Staff was very pleasant. We sat outside and loved eating under the palms. Also enjoyed the Artists at Gulf Place...

    Commodores Retreat

I see there is a top floor unit listed for sale at $60,000 - with clear disclosure that the unit is not habitable and a special assessment is expected. Looks like it is Wells Fargo REO per the tax records. Any hope that this building will be habitable anytime soon? Appears to be a bad...

Just In: A Nearby Secret Spot On The Forgotten Coast

shshshsh... don't tell a soul! In July, I spent a few days snorkeling in St. Joe Bay in the shallows around the state park and Black's Island. It was really incredible... several turtles, LOTS of rays, sharks, dolphin, starfish, a puffer fish and lots of spiney urchins. I'm making this an...

    Biodiesel?

Anybody out there have experience running biodiesel blends in regular cars/trucks? I have a 2006 Jetta TDI with 60,000 miles on it. VW says biodiesel upto B5 is acceptable. I'd like further input if anyone has any. I'm not considering 100% WVO - just a bio blend.

Activities for family with kids, aside from the beach

If you decide to head east toward St. Joe, be sure to visit the St. Joseph State Park out on the peninsula of Cape San Blas (off another 30A). It's worth the trek. The gulf side is nice, but the bay side is the real hidden gem in my opinion. I can PM you pics if you'd like. Wonderful...
