Paula Deen Family Kitchen Coming Soon to Pier Park

Paula Dean just opened a restaurant by us. They serve family style by table. Each table gets a choice of a set number of entrees. When we went we got two entrees, four sides, and I think 2 desert choices but they gave us four to taste. I’ve heard others say three entrees so it may depend...

Wanted Considerations when buying a rental condo

Your question regarding the number of rental days is going to be HUGELY dependent on where the property is located, how "rentable" it is from a quality/decor/bedrooms/amenities, etc. You really need to look at or ask those who own units in your complex to get a better feel for those numbers...

    Misc Pets On Beach

My point is that we don't even allow people to comply by not making it available and easy for ANYONE who wants to buy a permit to do so. Why restrict to residents? Why not allow anyone to buy a permit online? I'm a homeowner so I can buy a permit if I choose, but the likelihood of me driving...

    Misc Pets On Beach

The county is missing out on some serious $ by not allowing anyone to buy a pet license for the beach. Make it easy to buy (online) and have the license good for the year, not this Aug-Aug nonsense. The hours, pick up after your pet and leash laws are fine they way they are IMHO.

Sick Of Beach Chair Vendors in South Walton

People say these chairs are already paid for and that may or may not be completely true. Some vacation rentals include chair set ups as a part of their package so there are set-ups for people sitting there all week with no intention of being used. I wouldn't have an issue with the chair...

Sea Turtle Release Schedule & Locations

Is there a website, contact or publication where the turtle release schedules and location are listed? My daughter will be in Seagrove next week and would love to experience this if the releases are still happening. Thanks in advance for any insights/information anyone can provide.

Injunction denied on new beach access purchase.

Seems like an opportunity for the county to earn some additional revenues by leasing the lot to Stinkys for use after park hours. A simple chain to close the lot after hours may help entice Stinkys to ink a deal with the county. Everybody wins.

Policy on Personal Beach Chairs vs Vendor

In terms of chairs and umbrellas... The fix is likely as simple as not setting up until the consumer is physically there to take possession and removing them when the consumer leaves. The ghost set-ups, early morning set-ups, taking 50% of the beach, problems would likely take care of themselves.

Policy on Personal Beach Chairs vs Vendor

All my tommy bahama chairs have zipper problems. They've lasted pretty well. I have 9 and they have been used going on three summers and just had one tear today. Heard the wooden handle chairs mold so I'll probably stick with the Costco tommy Bahamas.

New TDC Regional Beach access opposed by Beachfront owners

That's a compromise?? Really?? A compromise would be to either eliminate the bathroom or put it in where the existing parking lot is. I'm guessing you have never been to this area since here is no way to "minimally impact the dunes" with what you have suggested - It would require nearly...

New TDC Regional Beach access opposed by Beachfront owners

The dunes border the driveway/road providing access to 20 or so homes, so the only way to put in parking would require the dunes to be removed if the current design is implemented. IMHO this plan permanently destroys the sacred beauty for which we all love this area. Especially when the county...

New TDC Regional Beach access opposed by Beachfront owners

I don't understand the comments or this string. There is already a beach access here and parking. Any development along the beach would require removal of the dunes which I wouldn't think anyone would want. And adding beach walkovers when there are already flat land paths through the dunes is...

Public vs Private Beach [threads merged]

These chairs are not used. Some may be paid for, but few are actually used or used for more than a short period of time during the day. I'm all for franchise fees, but this fee will just be passed on to the tourists and the chairs will continue to sit empty. I understand your concept with the...

Public vs Private Beach [threads merged]

Danny - We don't need any more unnecessary buildings on or along our beaches. The beach vending problem is 4-5 months long and a kiosk is permanent. The hundreds of unused "equipment" you mentioned is a result of poor policy of allowing set-up without requiring occupancy prior to set-up...

    Best Fishing Charter?

Public vs Private Beach [threads merged]

Danny - I agree with your statement with the caveat that the Neighborhood Beach accesses remain as they are today. Adding parking and bathrooms to the parks might help satisfy the demand. And maybe the parks could charge for parking in order to keep up with the maintenance the increased...

Public vs Private Beach [threads merged]

A thought and a question for the group... Question: Where is the "high water mark" on our beaches? Is it a fixed line or does it change with erosion/addition of the beach itself? From what I have read this seems to be surrounded by controversy. Thought: If the high water mark is "owned...

Public vs Private Beach [threads merged]

We have a neighborhood beach access in front of our place. The beach vendors hog up nearly all of the shoreline with empty chairs by 7-7:15am - and most remain empty for the day. This leaves a large number of people with no where to set up. Where do they go? Well, they move down the beach...

    Beware of Rip Currents!

New vendor sign posts in Grayton

I've noticed there are a couple of these on the beach in seagrove by Walton dunes but they are not arranged in a way that marks off an area. What are they for? Does this mean the dumpy, unoccupied, beach chair set ups have to be contained within some designated area?

Participate in the Walton County Taxpayers Opinion Poll on Tourism

    Dune Lake Fishing

I fished yesterday in Deer Lake on the outflow and walked as far back as I could. No hits yet. Tried a jig with spinner, spinner bait, and a couple of others. Guess that's why it's called fishing instead of catching. :-). I'll give it another go this week and report back.

    Dune Lake Fishing

Good to know. I had read that the red tide didn't affect fresh water but the dune lakes are unique. Given that there are fish in them and the red tide happens at least every year, I'll remain optimistic.

    Dune Lake Fishing

What's the fishing like in the dune lakes? I was thinking of giving it a try at Deer Lake in a few weeks. I assumed there might be some nice bass, but with the brackish nature of the lakes I wasn't sure. I'm a catch and release and licensed fisherman. Any insights and advice would be...

Five or so sharks seen at seacrest area

@Seasidedent - Sadly, last March I was more worried about stepping on trash than anything else. Lots of red solo cups and many of them were encrusted with sea life, so the'd been there a while. I wonder if we are seeing the trash from PCB or Destin being distributed on our beaches? Sad...

    Beach Vendor Zone posts

7:40 am today. Looks like the beach vendors are ignoring the 50% rule.... And shockingly, NONE of these set-ups are occupied!! So unfortunate that our views of the beach now include empty chairs and umbrella from dawn to dusk....

    Beach Vendor Zone posts

deborsk - this may be one of the issues with all of the set-ups being unoccupied. Even though they may be purchased, there could be a high probability of renters not using them every day they are available. Would it be just as an effective promotion to have the renters contact the beach chair...

Beach Chair vendor moved my chairs

Given the 6am start time you reference your son having to be at work, it seems like the owners of these chair rental companies are ignoring the 7:30 am set-up requirement. Not blaming the kids for doing what they are told...

    Beach Activities Ordinance Changes 5/22/15

This morning I look at the Walton Dunes beach access at 7:20 and saw 20+ setups (two chairs and an umbrella) already in place and in a straight line along most of the beach. I assume the morning nesting survey happens before 7am? Just don't understand the "after morning nesting" clause in this...

    Beach Activities Ordinance Changes 5/22/15

Adding to other comments... 7:30 am is too early. As far as I'm concerned these set-ups are just polluting the morning sunrise and ocean views. They are usually sit empty until mid morning at the earliest. Move the start time back to something like 9am and ONLY allow set-ups to start once...
