    Misc Heartbreaking Gulf Front

Good post - nice to have dialog instead of sniping. The preservation of what is left of South Walton is paramount. The planning commission and BCC is approving almost anything that comes along. They make a show, and make developers jump though hoops, but it is out of control. Building on a...

Customary Use and Our 30A Legacy

There were more violations than they could deal with and most of the illegal work was covered up so they slapped some fines on a few people and did a blanket approval of all the illegal and IGNORANT work. Greed, ignorance and bureaucracy at its finest. What I mostly have a problem with is...

    Property Management Enquiry

It is tough to move here without a job lined up, plenty of savings, etc. We are a small town and not a whole lot of jobs outside of tourism and many are low pay. Not easy to find housing either and it is expensive. However there is work to be had relating to construction and maintenance.

Customary Use and Our 30A Legacy

You're new here but this has been discussed intensely. I was up and down the beaches in 2005 and 2006 and saw all the illegal "beach restoration" you are talking about. A lot of it was documented here with descriptions and photos. Just do a search and read up before posting again. It was a...

Customary Use and Our 30A Legacy

I abide the law but I would not use it to take advantage of others, or use the law for cover for actions that are clearly wrong. That is what GREEDY and unethical people do. If you are trying to keep people off the beach behind your home, a beach that has been free and open for decades (actually...

Customary Use and Our 30A Legacy

Pretty obvious to anyone who was here that the period from around 2000 until the bubble burst there was an influx of money - flippers, builders, developers, realtors, lawyers, title companies etc. etc. who were chasing the bucks and didn't give a damn about the local environment or businesses...

Public vs Private Beach [threads merged]

@John G this is how beachfront owners take care of "their" beach. Owning beachfront is ludicrous. The beach belongs to the people! Oh and by the way, you can't see it in this photos but this is in Gulf Trace which has dozens of septic tanks and drain fields just under the sand where children...

Seafood Fest @ Shades this Saturday Apr 2

What is pricing? I see no mention anywhere - is it free? Now that would be a REAL Fest. Not sure if it's the case here but I'm tired of local restaurants having "FESTS" and "PARTIES" and "SPECIAL EVENTS" and then showing up to find out they are just trying to drum up business for regular-priced...

    South Walton Sports Complex Update

Personally, I don't see the addition of hotels, fast food, and more traffic as a plus for South Walton. Sure it's great for kids to have ball fields, and it would be nice to have a large open field for festivals, but let's hold off on adding stuff for more and more commercial development. I...
