Destin Wedding - rehearsal dinner spot

I'm gonna have to agree with drunkenartist on this one. The traffic from Crestview on down through Niceville and into Destin and ANYWHERE in Destin is absolutely unbearable on the 4th or any holiday time. It was pretty darn bad on 98 in Destin on New Year's Eve and that's the off season! You...

    lousey new year's eve

We were down in the area, too, and had a phenomenal New Year's Eve. We avoided the restaurants, had pizza, birthday cake for my son, and walked down to Norreiga (sp) Point to watch the little fireworks show and listen to the screaming revellers across the harbor. We were staying on Holiday...

    whats for dinner tonight

I heard the magic words somewhere up higher in the posts... Central Market. It's the groovy greatest! It's worth a trip from Louisiana just to go grocery shopping and get some gelato. I will miss it when we move.

We'll be sure to stop by in October, too. I want to go to the Flutterby festival at Gulf Place so it will be an ideal stop for a meal after. Since The Spicy Noodle has let me down, I'm looking for a new fav pizza place.

    Cargotecture

Searcher, thanks for the good words. My husband and I have been looking at that one today. I think if we decide to do this we may go with something more custom because this should be the last home we own and although it's not a problem now, we don't want to worry with stairs as we get older...

    Cargotecture

I looked at architecture and hygiene's website and they have a 2000 sq ft house completely done for just less than 150 k. i'm think that's not too bad, and they do bill them as hurricane proof. it's a little funky, but isn't that part of the charm of life down there? you guys march to your...

www.hybridseattle.com The very modernistic style is not for everyone I know, but we kind of like it. I like the "greenness" of it, also.

    Cargotecture

Since Florida has more unusual construction than Louisiana I have to ask if anyone has seen any "cargotecture" housing. It is made from shipping containers and, because of the construction is absolutely hurricane proof. It is a very "green" housing alternative due to the glut of containers in...

New Orleans Along MI Coast to Seagrove

I was part of that way earlier in the year(Feb.). We went across SE LA and the MS coast (not Ponchartrain tho). It was dismal. Just out of Baton Rouge you could start seeing the downed trees, trash, and blue tarped houses. By the time we got to the MS border it was worse. Biloxi and...

Maw Maw?s Country Kitchen Opens in Baytowne Wharf

I saw bbq mentioned and it's funny, my husband was craving bbq the whole time we were down there and it seemed like every block or so there was a bbq place. But he refused since pork is usually the speciality and ,living just next door to Texas, bbq to us is beef and spicy, not sweet like the...

    Greetings from SoWal--hee hee

Sadly, we have now returned from paradise. The reference to the Spicy Noodle was that the crust was shoe leather. My son could not eat it because we were afraid it would pull off one of his braces. It broke my heart. The thing that really turned me against the place was that the server asked...

That's guys! That's what I thought. I did figure the Destin lady probably hadn't been out that way. I have to stay up that way in Oct. because I've got to do a lot of business and it's closer. It would probably be even better to stay in Ft. Walton, but I just don't like it there. I'm afraid...

steeleing-- I'm in the middle of plans to relocate to the general area. I've been warned away from DeFuniak several times. I think it's a charming town. Any idea why the warnings? I never got a straight answer, only "you don't wanna go there" type of thing. I'm very confused...:idontno:

A really great hot dog stand. I know it sounds cliche', but here where I live there's an awesome one downtown with top quality dogs and homemade buns and people come from all over to go to it. They also do parties so that could be a side thing. Low overhead, movable venue.
