Which Beaches are private and which are public?

I am told one of the Blue Mountain Beach beachfront property owners, a former lawyer, went into court stating the developers had 'intended' to give the beach to the subdivision and asked that the judge award him that property seaward of his home to the waters edge. Of course the developers, long...

Which Beaches are private and which are public?

In an attempt to clear up the discussion about the Blue Mountain Beach neighborhood plans I would like to note there are two plans, BMB-1 and BMB-2. The BMB-1 plan mentioned above is a plan being proposed by beachfront property owners that would include just beachfront properties. However, not...

Redfish Village - changes to the development

It is not my intention to debate the comments made on this thread but to clarify or add a different perspective to what has been written here. Some people will agree while others will disagree. That?s life. I will attempt to address misconceptions as I see them throughout the thread. I should...

Doodle Harris wants to change zoning; Increase densities in Old Seagrove

The same thing is happening in Blue Mountain Beach. The beachfront single-family home site once owned by the Cawthon family on Blue Mountain Road is now for sale by B.J. Development, LLC as a development opportunity. The Blu' Biscayne. Their sign says the property allows up to three residential...

Walton voters "duped" by gang of "powerbrokers"?

What's new is the $15,000.00 fine for the 30 "willful violations" of the state's election code, according to a consent order made public this past Friday, 5/26/06. The WAV group would have the public believe that the violations were just technical in nature but many of the 30 violations...

    Beach contamination in Seagrove

County engineer Greg Graham was very clear on this issue back when we were having problems with all the red sand being brought onto Blue Mountain Beach. The county did initially approve 6.2 sand. Many people got approval. The standard was later raised because of all the abuse of the 6.2...

    dog friendly stuff?

I was excited to see you have a Havanese puppy. My wife and I are thinking about getting one but we live here along 30-A and have only seen one once and that was on a visit to San Francisco. We're still looking for a breeder within driving distance. I'm sure you're puppy is great. Any...

    Florida Homeowners Insurance Ripoff

And to make matters worse the Walton Board of County Commissioners continue to approve requests to develop closer and closer to the water, in the V-Zone and seaward of the Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL). These areas are the most susceptible being damaged by storms. Homeowners here are...

    bulldozers?

I believe that contractors with permits can have heavy equipment on the beach doing work, but those permits, which I do believe do come under that 60 day special deal, have restrictions. No work can beginning before 9 AM or until the Turtle Watch Group has cleared the area. Heavy equipment is...

    Flashlights/Turtles

The turtles are still attempting to nest on our beaches as usual although they are having a tough time with all the deeps ruts from the heavy equipment and debris on the beach. In addition, this past Tuesday night one of the nests laid earlier this year hatched, so that activity is going on...

    septic tanks and feces

The county commission meeting that will deal with the septic tank issue is at the Walton County courthouse in DeFuniak Springs at 4PM today. Go up highway 331, cross under I-10, until you run out of road. Take a right and the courthouse is several blocks down on the left. It's about a 45 to 50...

    Emergency BCC Meeting - 8/1/05

The county removed just about all the red dirt at the highway 83 access. Of course there is still a stain on the beach but the mountain is gone. After that someone has started bringing in white sand to that site. The red sand that was moved from the original big mountain to the house to the east...

    septic tanks and feces

To this point the majority of county commissioners have claimed because this is a private subdivision they have no authority to force water and sewer on these people, despite the fact that many of them want water and sewer. I'm told commissioner Cuchens has relatives that live in this...

Geo tubes will save homes and dunes and make the beaches better

The county is not too good about enforcing their own rules and regulations. They often ignore DEP and U.S. Fish and Wildlife requirements. Enforcement is generally complaint driven. If no one complains nothing happens. They say it's easier to ask for forgiveness and than permission.

Geo tubes will save homes and dunes and make the beaches better

As I noted over in the emergency meeting thread, I have no real knowledge of this system and therefore have no opinion for or against it. I am happy new potential solutions are being looked at by the county and local residents. I do know that both the DEP and U.S Fish and Wildlife say the...

    septic tanks and feces

The holdup appears to be the majority of homeowners digging in their heels, but I understand for them it's about money. They get their water from three wells in the subdivision and they have no sewer costs. Because their roads are private the county has no right-of-way there. Regional Utilities...

    septic tanks and feces

Inlet Beach to the east has some homes still on septic systems but they are actively working to install sewer. James Earl Ray, who maintains the subdisision, has resisted sewer in Gulf Trace and...
