    Pedestrian crosswalks

Sorry. I wasn't referring to GA. I was talking about my earlier post (#13) - the Florida Statute: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=Ch0316/SEC130.HTM&Title=->2007->Ch0316->Section%20130#0316.130 So, don't suddenly leave a...

    Pedestrian crosswalks

Further in the statute it says: (10) Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway. There is a really funny one too: (8) No pedestrian...

    Pedestrian crosswalks

I looked it up for you - pedestrians have the right-of-way: 316.130 Pedestrian obedience to traffic control devices and traffic regulations.-- 7) When traffic control signals are not in place or in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping...

    Canopy on the beach

So if we were talking about Ed Walline Park, the vender only needs County permission?
  6. JustaLocal

    Canopy on the beach

I sure hope that is incorrect. $200 for a vending permit and then you have to ask permission from private property owners adjacent to the park your customers choose to use? I think that's unreasonable.

    Just Found Out I Won!

I don't see the link or article above. I did see it in the NWF Daily News - CONGRATULATIONS! It's a terrific article and I think you look adorable in the photograph holding up your prize! Great job!

    Negative Campaigning in Walton

It was used against Herman Walker last election. He may have lost in any case, so who knows what impact it had. I would prefer a candidate prove he is better, rather than the other guy is worse.

    Canopy on the beach

This is true, but BMBV does make a point.

Also for the record, I was laughing because I understood it was a joke. Nobody is advocating stealing.

    Canopy on the beach

Fryday - I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit. :D I think we've had pretty great weather this year. I met many family's enjoying the 4th of July weekend! It was great. I just love our Summer visitors. Please keep an eye on SoWal.com before you come next year. I can tell you are unhappy...

I just went and re-read a few pages on that thread.:D It never gets old!

    Shark Question

That doesn't make any sense. There would have to be an exception if you fall out of a vessel, right?

    Cyclist in middle of road?

I guess the bike lane on the west end of 30A doesn't continue the entire length? This is from the Florida Bicycle Association website: "State Law says you must ride as far to the right as practicable. It does NOT say as far to the right as possible. Practicable means capable of being done...

    Salty Dog Taco Tuesday

Maybe they are still working out some kinks. When we were there the other night the chalkboard out front said open at 4:30. The waitress told us happy hour was 4 to 6. I wouldn't be very happy at 4 if they aren't open until 4:30.

Items left on beach being addressed

Did he tell you why he is doing it? I never saw those big holes on the beach before last year. I haven't caught anyone digging one yet. If I do, I plan to find out why they do it. Is it fun? It doesn't seem fun to me, more like work. Building a sand castle - yes, fun. Design, execute...

Biker runs over little girl, doesn't stop!!!

There is no question, pedestrians have the right-of-way on the multiuse path! This is one reason so many cyclists prefer the road. I almost always end up slowing down (much) or running off into the grass in that area near Gulf Place. There is not really a way that feels 'polite' to come...

    Beach renourishment

Nice video. I disagree that beach renourishment caused the private beach signs. There are many now on beaches that have not been renourished. The connection is incidental.

things to do with 8 & 10 year old?

Pottery makes a good 'remembrance' of your visit as well. I'm over 40 and Perpetual Imagination kept me entertained until my friends dragged me out! These are both GREAT ideas!

things to do with 8 & 10 year old?

No, PLEASE do not do this! It is sea turtle nesting season right now, use only flashlights with red film over them that are turtle friendly.

Not gonna make it this year!! :(

I'm so sorry for both of you NE Sowal'r and Poodleone. :( I hope you can come sooner rather than later! Meanwhile, you can have visits in your imagination by checking out the various beach cams. I've done this when out of town and homesick.

Coastal Drilling - For or Against?

Very good book for anyone interested in Florida Geology! I agree. No matter what we do, eventually oil will become too scarce. I think the sooner we learn how to live without so much of life dependent on it the better. It really disappoints but doesn't surprise me from McCain - it is...

Is there a commissioner for "all" the SoWal Residents?

Visiting in a few weeks and have a question

I don't get down to that end of 30A too often, but I think it's about 2 or 3 miles east to Rosemary Beach. There a few places there for breakfast/coffee. About 4 or 5 miles west is Amavida Coffee. Hopefully somebody from that end of 30A can help you out. Enjoy your visit!!

    County Commission District 1 Race?

Thanks Aleonard, I can't wait! :D I see my wording was poor. The list the Daily News printed is of those who prefiled and I do not doubt it is accurate. There was no claim as to who will end up running.

Thanks Kurt. I wondered about their information since they also list Cindy Meadows and Charlie Burke for District 5.

    Owners Argue "Leave No Trace"

Isn't this a moot point right now? I was under the impression that until they pass the re-worded ordinance, they were only removing items from public beach accesses. Are they removing items left overnight at Redfish currently?

    Owners Argue "Leave No Trace"

Exaggerating. First you would have to get one citation and pay a fine, then you would have to get a second citation and pay a larger fine, then you would have to get a third citation and pay an even bigger fine - and MAYBE you could get yourself sentenced to up to 60 days in jail. Your...

    Owners Argue "Leave No Trace"

You are exaggerating. I read through the ordinance. I think if the owner is going to have a big hissy fit about their umbrella, then they are likely to express that when they go pay the first two fines. $100 first violation and $200 for the second. From the proposed ordinance...

    Love Shack...YAY!

I heard they open at 4 pm. Maybe the deck/bar opens at 3 and dining at 4. Something like that. Luckily it is still somewhat light until about 8pm. I'd have to ride Hwy 98 about 2 miles.

    Love Shack...YAY!

Thanks for the report Franny. I haven't made it in yet, but it is within bicycle riding distance for me so I definitely plan to. It sounds like they are getting all the opening kinks worked out!
  42. JustaLocal

    Owners Argue "Leave No Trace"

Where in the world is that coming from? Is that in the new wording of the ordinance? If you leave items on the beach 3 times you can be arrested!? I thought they would just remove the offending items. I've had a flu the past week or so and haven't been keeping up well. Maybe I missed this...

In the video of the meeting Ms. Harris pointed out that part of Edgewater's contract with the beach vendors is that they pick up anything left on the beach. In fact, she made it sound like aside from their volleyball net poles, they are behind this ordinance.
  44. JustaLocal

    Owners Argue "Leave No Trace"

You're right, that is a great idea. When you consider how much the beach changes daily, it is best and easiest way to confirm location.

Thanks for the link SJ. I so wanted to attend this meeting but this stupid flu I?ve had has kept me home. It really makes you appreciate Com. Meadows and Com. Comander. I was also glad to see Mr. Anderson and the lady from 4 Mile Village speak up as voices of reason amidst some that weren?t.

    Seawalls

Maybe this isn't the best time to use that list of permits under review. Most of those 115 are for armoring. I looked up about 10 of the non-armoring properties and only one of those is for a house. The others already have a home on the property so must be for dune walkovers, decks...
