Walton County may have bought land they already own

Now is the time that BCC should tighten up lobbying and ethics laws in Walton County. The current attorney going to work for a law firm we already contract with, and now we are going to pay them what we were paying her for only 60% of her time, and if they apply for the county attorney...

Bridge Addition for US HWY 331

Idlewind, You ought to go back and read the newspapers during the times all of this funding was being settled. You can not sit over here and insult the sitting Governor and the Secretary of DOT while at the same time holding out your hand and asking for a project to be funded. May not be...

Bay parents request teacher rehires at WCSB

Just how much are you talking in dollars? They can spend 6+ million on a stadium in DFS. Smartboards are no longer that expensive.

Bay parents request teacher rehires at WCSB

Actually technology is the one thing that can be purchased out of capital funds, which we have plenty of. The district budget has the shortfall in the operational side. Why PTOs are constantly buying things that we can afford, and never buying things that there is no money for, like classroom...

Bay parents request teacher rehires at WCSB

Why not just convert all the schools to public charters, appoint local community boards to run them, then they would make the hiring/firing decisions? Depending on the make-up of the students, they actually could get more money from the State then they currently do if I am understanding the...

    Will Walton follow Escambia's lead?

I think there was a lot of things changed in this whole system before the law ever came into being and based on those changes, not seeing where it ever needed to even occur. The first thing said was FRS was going broke. My spouse is in FRS, so I certainly felt that if we needed to give 3% to...

    Redistricting Walton County

C Jones lives in her district which is totally south of the bay. Both 3A and 3D leave that district totally south of the bay. 3A has one additional district which is part south and part north. 3D has two districts which are part south and part north. So explain, if you can, how 3D is not...

    Redistricting Walton County

How is that any different than what you have now? The sad thing is the south end has the numbers to make a difference, just too indifferent to show up at the polls. This weeks Herald had a letter from a south walton business threatening to band together and vote the commissioners out if they...

Budget cutting recommendations for Walton County

You do not have to be in the mainstream. Taking those lists last time and contacting people for SaraK was invaluable to the campaign. I know she has thanked you, but in case I did not, Thanks for all the help. Finding grass roots volunteers willing to cold call is not an easy task.

    Redistricting Walton County

Maybe there was a meeting I missed, but I don't think so. I am not sure you know how 3D even came about. At the second meeting, the first meeting after numbers were gotten, the only map we really had was 3A. I had gone to GIS and worked with Kevin to come up with that map mainly because I had...

It will either be a motion to remove or a motion to approve. I can promise you that much. But I plan on making at least one, if not many motions at the next meeting. 8-)

Budget cutting recommendations for Walton County

Until upper management starts to manage you are going to consistently have a problem. Making a guy supervisor over two employees and then using that to give him a $2K a year raise is a bit absurd. Those are dollars that can be used to help all the line workers, instead of just picking ones...

    Redistricting Walton County

I agree with you. I was surprised those meetings are being held at that hour. Just never expected it. But the meetings where the actual adoption of the plan by the BCC and the WCSB will be in the evenings, and it is going to be their decision.

    Redistricting Walton County

The exact original plan as put forth at the FIRST meeting which had no public attendance. In fact, Bonnie McQuiston was the one that insisted that we hold meetings all over the county as the process was being done. One of those maps makes significant changes to representation in the Paxton...

    Redistricting Walton County

She could have used any equipment, audio visual aids, handouts that she wanted to use. The meeting was a bit confusing because what was being said was not matching what we were handed or shown. I have seen a printed map and now have a better understanding of what she was saying.

    Redistricting Walton County

They say if you keep spouting conspiracy theories long enough, eventually they will take hold and people will remember them as the truth. I know I repeatedly stated that I stored 20K of absentee ballots under my bed and ultimately was the subject of investigations from Walton County to...

Budget cutting recommendations for Walton County

I can see where it is saving the employee money, but have not found anywhere where any significant savings are being shown in government. I believe the problem is that they are not closing completely on that Friday. So half are off on Monday and half are off on Friday. Now logic tells me that...

    Redistricting Walton County

I guess it could look that way. But between the three maps their district boundaries do change if I am remembering correctly and we had discussed at our first meeting that we wanted to meet in all three areas of the county. If not for the issues brought up at the last meeting, I doubt we would...

    WCSB Special Referendum 5/17/2011

ADA and Title 9 serve a purpose so I would not want to see them totally repealed. I believe the millage thing was set up to keep districts from spending all their dollars in operational, ignoring buildings, then trying to go to the legislature to get additional capital dollars.

    WCSB Special Referendum 5/17/2011

At one time Walton County was funding over 90% of the budget because of such low student census numbers. Now that we have students, I doubt we could afford to do this, but it was discussed in the past.
