    Route from Montgomery

Georgianna exit #114 off I-65. 31/55 to Andalusia (almost all of it at 65 mph speed limit). Bypass around west side of Andalusia, pick up 55 again to Florala. 331 the rest of the way.

    Cheap Eats?

I'll let others chime who are in the know about the area restaurants. When we do our annual beach trip, we visit the fish markets quite a bit and cook our own. That's a cheap way to eat fresh!

    Bay Fishing Charters?

We're heading down the first week of June, and I was considering a fishing charter for our family of four (two kids 12 and 10 yrs). I would prefer a gulf charter, but in order to get the rest of the family to go, it would need to be a bay-side charter. Any recommendations in the SRB/30-A area?

    best directions from I-65?

If using Google Maps, it says the 331 route is 11 miles shorter, but 14 minutes longer than the Georgiana route. Much of the route between Georgiana and Andalusia is 65 mph divided highway with no stops, and obviously I-65 is 70 mph with no stops, which is where you overcome the distance...

    best directions from I-65?

Hate to disagree with a fellow Tennessean, but I-65 exiting at Georgiana is by far the quickest, most direct route to SoWa: Georgiana, Andalusia, Florala, De Funiak, then the beach! There is no comparison continuing on down I-65 at 70 mph with no stops. IT is the best way.

    Stepped on a SNAKE......pic.....

Not sure about Florida, but snakes, even poisonous ones, are protected here in TN. Not supposed to kill them. If it is causing a nuisance, you are supposed to call wildlife agency, etc. to relocate it. Cottonmouth Moccasin test: if the snake swims with its entire body on top of the water...

    Reservations for Christmas Dinner

Check out Locanda Italiana for great southern Italian food. Better call to see if they are open though! They are just east of the 30A/98W. Call 850.622.1119.

Locanda Italiana - new Italian restaurant

We ate at the restaurant three times during our visit to SoWal back in June. Absolutely the best southern Italian I have ever eaten! And yes, that dipping sauce was awesome! I can't wait to get back down there and enjoy it again. Esther is a wonderful hostess -- ask for her! Vittorio...

    Locanda Italiana Bravo! Stinky's Rocks!

Just back from 10 hot, humid days at SRB/Topsail Hill. Sampled several new restaurants this trip, and have to brag on two: First and foremost, Locanda Italiana in SRB Village Mall is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Run, don't walk; get there before the crowds discover it! Simply the best authentic...

    Casual dining along 30a?

Casual lunch dining: Elmo's Grill on the west end, and Seagrove Village Market in the 'middle'. For dinner, can't beat Yianni's in Seagrove. We were down last week and had good/very good meals at all the above; Yianni's was exceptional and stood out. Was a little disappointed with Angelinas...

    Hurricane Katrina - I

Re: Hurricane Katrina We were in Seagrove post Arlene / Pre Dennis. I feel soooo sorry for you folks down there. I work for an electric utility in TN. Our internal weather folks, who subscribe to numerous private services, says NHC's 11 am update will shift Katrina's track further west/south...

State of the beaches after Arlene

We are in Seagrove, having to use the Pelayo public beach access since our condo's access is missing its last 20 feet of steps. There is very little sand on the beach, with a lot of that semi-fossilized, weird peat stuff exposed mixed in with black sand. Also several ancient cypress stumps...

    Favorite restaurants

We are down here in Seagrove right now and have a new favorite restaurant: Yianni's Seagrove Grill. Ate there Monday night. Top to bottom: service, appetizers, entrees, everything, was excellent. Angelinas was good but service was bad Sunday night. Last night stopped at Goatfeathers II...

State of the beaches after Arlene

I was in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, AL May 11-14. There was a dredge operation 1/4 mile offshore and what appeared to be a 36" pipe pumping sand onto shore. Trucks were then hauling the stuff off, and I saw some bulldozers spreading sand in places. I saw some of the post-Ivan pictures of the...
