There's a guy who is doing tours and people are very upset about all the noise. How do you feel about airboat tours? Seems like an airboat is made for marshes and we don't have much of them and will be destroyed by an airboat.

Not a good idea. I've seen a few near our place in Pt Washington over the years. Extremely loud.

Another "cheesy circus" to disrupt our natural environment and most important assets.

Give me one good reason why you would use an airboat instead of a regular boat? - agree - hell no!

No air boats. We live on the river now and the last thing I want to hear or see is a freak`n airboat buzz`n by my dock.

We took the tour last year--and I now can understand why airboats are not wanted on the bay. Too noisy...why would we want to disrupt our natural environment and most important assets?

Not to offend, but why did you take it? Did you not know it was noisy? Thought it would be cool?

Walton County folded and voted to virtually no limits, allowing airboats Monday through Saturday between 8am and 6pm.

There's been one before that operated on the north side of the bay right where 331 hits land again. It didn't last...

There is no good time or place for this unnecessary horrible sound. If there is, then tell me

How do you feel about motorcycles that are just as loud? Right outside a business or a home? And what about packs of motorcycles that are twice as loud?

Well, twice a year, during ThunderBeach, there are packs of motorcycles and I don’t mind. In fact, I truly love the big guttural Harley sound. It’s temporary and many ride together for a greater good. But the airboat and its sound six days a week at 8am is like your neighbor using a leaf blower every morning.

Imagine having a loud motor bike on your quiet street that rattles windows several times a day. Nothing charming about it.

FWC approves new course requirements for airboat operators carrying passengers for hire

At its June 19-20 meeting in Sarasota, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved new course requirements for airboat operators carrying passengers for hire. A tragic airboat accident in south Florida was the impetus behind House Bill 1211, known as “Ellie’s Law,” requiring all airboat operators carrying passengers for hire to complete an Airboat Operators Course.

FWC staff worked with the airboat education industry and stakeholders to gather public input and develop the rule, which details minimum course requirements for instructor qualifications, student requirements, airboat operators course requirements, basic course topics, proof of completion and refresher course requirements. The rule is supported by the airboat education industry, stakeholders and the public as indicated from three public meetings and meetings with the Florida Airboat Association.

“Public safety is important to the FWC, and with the Legislature’s guidance, this new rule provides additional requirements for airboat operator courses which will improve safety measures for passengers aboard an airboat for hire,” said Commission Chairman Bo Rivard.

Implementation of the new rule will go into effect by July 1, 2019. The entire rule can be viewed here https://bit.ly/2MBC9nQ.
