Pet owners of the Emerald Coast will have an opportunity to feature their pets in Alaqua Animal Refuge’s first edition coffee table book fundraiser, “Pets of the Emerald Coast.” Pet Portrait Network, located in Alabama, will hold one-hour portrait sessions and photograph the donor’s pet for $150.00 in the South Walton area. Each donor will receive a copy of the book, which will feature a full-page color photo of his or her pet. They will also have a chance to have their pet on the front cover. The book is limited to the first 100 donors.

A unique feature of the book will include a personal “video” message by Founder Laurie Hood, through an app called Live Portrait. The Live Portrait app is compatible with Apple and Android cell phones. For more information or to secure a space please email volunteer@alaquaanimalrefuge.org.

Alaqua is a no-kill facility, and initially provided shelter to only a handful of dogs, cats and other animals while a small staff worked to find them permanent, loving homes. But the shelter has expanded in the ensuing years and now provides a place of respite for about 250 animals at any given time, including dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, horses, donkeys and a wide variety of farm animals. Since 2007, Alaqua staff and volunteers have helped find homes for more than 11,000 animals, with up to 100 adoptions completed each month. Read more about Alaqua Animal Refuge and see photos in SoWal Groups.

Am very interested. My pet, Gumbo, is deceased. We spent 14 wonderful years together. She is a golden retriever mix and spent many days on Grayton Beach. Of course, we obtained a ticket for $25 for being on Grayton Beach State Park one year. Didn't know rules! Have her sitting in a beach chair on Grayton Beach. Can I submit a pic for $150?

Wow! 14 years...what a blessing. :) You'll have to contact Alaqua Animal Refuge at volunteer@alaquaanimalrefuge.org. It seems that some Facebook users have had some trouble with that email address, so if it doesn't work you can call Alaqua at (850) 880-6399 or email info@alaquaanimalrefuge.org. Good luck and thanks for sharing your story about Gumbo!
