The Mr. and I enjoy bananas foster. So when I got ready to make it last night, I sent him to the store to get some rum ( any as long as it was not clear) for the dessert. He doesn't drink and picked a bottle of 151 proof. I did not read the label when he brought it home and began cooking with it. What a stupid mistake! As I poured it in the pan, flames came shooting out
...not exaggerating. I singed the hair on my arms and set off the smoke alarm. Finally found the lid to the pan and smothered it....amazingly enough the bananas weren't harmed. I picked up the bottle and it had a warning "not to be used on flaming dishes". I had a good laugh after I got over my scare. Moral of this story...pay attention when cooking with alcohol!
