Building Homes for Heroes, a non-profit organization, will open a new office at The Summit in Miramar Beach, FL. This office will enable Building Homes for Heroes to continue to expand in the Florida panhandle and help meet its goal of gifting 20 mortgage-free homes to veterans in need in Florida in 2014, and more than 25 homes nationwide.

Building Homes for Heroes, a public charity that builds or modifies mortgage-free homes to meet the needs of wounded or disabled veterans who served during the time of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is currently building a home, from the ground up, for Air Force Master Sergeant Joseph Deslauriers in Destin. Deslauriers lost both legs above the knee and his left arm at the elbow in Afghanistan.

Bill Smith, the founder of Pelican Real Estate, generously donated the new location, which features eight offices and a conference room, rent-free. In addition to operating the largest locally owned real estate company in Northwest Florida, Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army for nearly 20 years.

“We are proud to be a Building Homes for Heroes sponsor," Mary Lurk, Executive Director of Pelican Real Estate said. "We have admired their national accomplishments and their kindhearted assistance to local wounded military men and women. It is an honor for Pelican Real Estate to help them in their efforts, and we look forward to helping Building Homes for Heroes grow along the Emerald Coast.”

Andy Pujol, president of Building Homes for Heroes, is appreciative of Pelican's support. "I would like to thank Pelican Real Estate for this incredibly generous donation," Pujol said. "The office space is beautiful and a perfect home for our organization. Following years of amazing growth plus a program rating of 93% or better for three consecutive years, our goal is to be considered one of the most respected military charities in the nation. Having a strong presence in the Panhandle gives us another step in that direction. Another step toward making our communities and country a better place for our veterans!”

Building Homes for Heroes is strongly committed to supporting the brave men and women of the military who have returned home from the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan with severe wounds and disabilities, with a goal to build homes for families in dire need. It's our honor to support the men and women who have loyally and courageously served our country.
