Alan Osborne's recent presentation to the Design City Council regarding Choctawhatchee Bay water quality is a concise summary of the problems faced in Walton County, and specifically with the Sandestin DRI (Development of Regional Impact). Mr. Osborne argued that Walton County water quality problems will soon become Okaloosa County problems, and any delays in addressing these issues will ultimately cost more money to fix.
Choctawhatchee Bay is on Florida DEP's Verified List of Impaired Waters. And the Harper report, presented to Walton County BCC in November 2018 identified specific issues with the Sandestin development. The projected cost to fix these problems is over 10 million dollars.
SWCC endorses Mr. Osborne's comments and supports the objective of encouraging Walton County to take action.
