The Scenic Corridor Foundation (SCF) recently announced Donut Hole in Inlet Beach as the winner of its Design Excellence Award for this quarter. Owner Brent Chandler will receive the award at a special presentation ceremony tomorrow, April 5, 2018, at 9 a.m. at Donut Hole’s Inlet Beach location.

Scenic Corridor Foundation created this award in 2017 to recognize businesses and developers who build or renovate projects that best exemplify the intent of the Scenic Corridor Guidelines established for developments on U.S. 98 and U.S. 331 S. in Chapter 13 of the Walton County Land Development Code.

“We designed this award for businesses that adhere to Scenic Corridor guidelines for architecture, landscaping, signage and other areas,” said Foundation Board Member Leigh Moore.

The architect who designed the building, Geoff Chick, will be commended for his contribution to the project. Scenic Corridor Foundation will also recognize the contribution of landscape architect Brad Davis, who designed the landscaping, and Karen Sinclair Kerns, who designed the interior and outdoor furniture for the project. This is the third consecutive recognition for Davis, who was also the landscape architect for two other projects – John Fayard Self Storage and Tom Thumb in the Sandestin area – both previous recipients of the Design Excellence Award.

Scenic Corridor Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that promotes increased property values, a robust business environment and safe and beautiful surroundings for all by proactively working to preserve, protect and enhance the Hwy. 98 and Hwy. 331 Scenic Corridor in Walton County, Florida.

“It’s a positive thing for our community and a positive thing for tourism,” said Moore. “I think when people drive into this area, they feel and see the difference and that’s really important. The Foundation believes it is all about improving quality of life in the community, improving property values and making the development more sustainable and in keeping with the character of the community.”

Attending the presentation will be team members of Donut Hole, Walton County Planning and Development Services staff and Scenic Corridor Foundation board members.

Scenic Corridor Foundation plans to present Scenic Corridor Design Excellence Awards on a quarterly basis. Community individuals and businesses are invited to become members by calling 850-837-1886 (ext. 222), sending an email to info@sceniccorridorfoundation.org or by visiting the website at www.ScenicCorridorFoundation.org. Membership dues are tax-deductible and are used to support programs and operating costs. Regardless of the level of contribution, community participation is essential to the Foundation’s ability to continue to make a significant positive impact in Walton County.
