North Walton resident looking forward to this year's surf fishing season. I heard Pompano are here which is confusing because the water temp is still in the low 60s. Can any one give an update on the current bite? Also, I used to fish off Topsail Hill Park's beach but am looking for something closer. Anyone have any good spots to recommend between Santa Rosa and Grayton beaches?

Check out this month's Florida Sportsman magazine. There is an article dealing with the (lack of) seasonality to pompano fishing. I know pompano have been caught for the last few months in Blue Mountain. I watched a guy pull a nice redfish out of the surf in Seagrove Sunday. The fish are out there, I think most are using frozen shrimp or squid on pompano rigs.
