Pat Carlyle, real estate broker who also practices meditation and mindful awareness, will present a program on the “Five Hindrances to awareness” at the Dec. 1 meeting of the Emerald Coast Meditation Society.

The ECMS will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Episcopal Church, at 480 N. Co. Hwy. 393, Santa Rosa Beach, one-half mile north of Hwy. 98. The meeting, open free to the public, begins with 30 minutes of silent meditation.

“Are your jingle bells feeling jangled” Carlyle asks. She will discuss how to use your meditation awareness to stay balanced throughout the holiday season. She will lead the group in exploring guided meditation, small-group interaction and individual meditation, and help people explore “the five hindrances to awareness and the knowledge and resources we each possess to create a joyful holiday season – no matter where, or with whom, you celebrate.”

Carlyle is a local real estate broker on 30A with Sotheby's and also a board member of Chelco, the Choctawhatchee Electrical Cooperative. Prior to her move to the area in 2002, she provided executive and board development and strategic planning to Fortune 500 companies all over the world.

She has been meditating since 1972 when she learned transcendental meditation. She is a reiki master, a facilitator of the work of Byron Katie and a Kripalu-certified teacher of dance yoga. She holds a bachelor's degree from Penn State in human development and a master of education degree from Temple University in “psychoeducational processes and organizational development.”

She says she is very excited to have just been accepted for a two-year teachers development program on Mindful Awareness Meditation with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, two noted teachers with whom she has studied extensively.

The ECMS is an ecumenical group open to anyone. It meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month, September through June. The evening will end around 8 p.m. with a short guided meditation. Anyone who would like meditation instruction should come at 6:15 p.m. Questions? Contact Nancy James, nancyjames@embarqmail.com.
