This month, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a $15.7 million construction project to widen and improve 1.8 miles of U.S. 98, between Mack Bayou Road and County Road (C.R.) 30A, in Walton County.

This project includes widening U.S. 98 from four to six travel lanes and constructing new five- to six-foot sidewalks on the north side of U.S. 98. A 10-foot-wide shared-use path will be constructed on the south side of the roadway. Other improvements include upgrading pedestrian crossings at the three signalized intersections to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, drainage improvements, and signalization improvements at the Mack Bayou Road, Hewett Road, and C.R. 30A intersections. The pavement will also be milled and resurfaced between Mack Bayou Road and C.R. 30A.

Construction activities will require periodic lane closures between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The work is estimated for completion in late 2023.
