Michelle Anchors, an attorney who has served as counsel to governors and members of congress and has led fundraising efforts for the needy, will speak at the Feb. 16 meeting of the Emerald Coast Meditation Society.

The ECMS will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Episcopal Church, at 480 N. Co. Hwy. 393, Santa Rosa Beach, one-half mile north of Hwy. 98. The meeting, open free to the public, begins with 30 minutes of silent meditation.

Anchors will share some thoughts and engage the audience in a discussion about coexisting in the community after the divisive 2016 election. She will discuss the topic of "Making Peace with Reality."

Anchors was a founding member of the law firm of Keefe, Anchors & Gordon. She graduated from Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida College of Law. Over the course of her career, she has developed a depth of government and administrative knowledge, to provide clients with effective solutions to complex legal matters.

She has worked as a law clerk for Justice Parker Lee McDonald of the Florida Supreme Court. She later served as Deputy General Counsel to former Gov. Lawton Chiles and as a member of his staff in the U.S. Senate. In 2013, Anchors was appointed to the Florida Commission on Ethics and currently serves as the commission’s vice chair. In addition to serving as pro bono counsel to several local non-profits, she is actively involved with a number of causes and organizations.

She chaired the Committee for a Sustainable Emerald Coast, is a founding member of IMPACT 100 of Northwest Florida, and in 2007 was named “Best Corporate Citizen” by Emerald Coast Magazine. She is one of Florida Trend’s “Legal Elite,” holds the highest rating offered by her professional peers, and in 2015 was inducted into the Okaloosa County Women’s Hall of Fame.

She and her husband have two children.
