Kick off the official start to summer this Memorial Day in SoWal on SunQuest Cruises SOLARIS’ Crawfish, Brews & Live Blues Cruise on Monday, May 26th from 1:30 – 4:30 pm. In addition to freshly boiled crawfish and cold brews, enjoy New Orleans Funk and soulful R & B from local band Boukou Groove, featuring special guest drummer Johnny Vidacovich – a legendary, contemporary jazz drummer from New Orleans. “At the conclusion of our first Crawfish Cruise in the spring, everyone was asking us when the next one would be. So it’s back by popular demand but we’re pulling out all the stops for Memorial Day weekend,” stated James Murray, General Manager for SOLARIS. “We are honored to host both Boukou Groove and Johnny Vidacovich who together create an infectious blend of energy that will make you feel like you’re sitting in the French Quarter of New Orleans.” Formed in Destin in 2010, Boukou Groove is the brainchild of singer/producer Donnie Sundal and New Orleans guitar luminary Derwin “Big D” Perkins. Their sound intertwines New Orleans funk and soulful R & B with a Jam Band Twist. During the past year while touring the country, they have shared the stage with guest performers such as Sam Bush, Morgan Freeman, Otis Clay and Junior Marvin (from Bob Marley and the Wailers,) to name a few. This Memorial Day weekend, Boukou Groove will share the SOLARIS sky deck stage with widely-renowned and sought-after New Orleans musician Johnny Vidacovich. Beginning his career in the late 1960’s with performances with the Ronnie Dupon Quartet, Vidacovich has played with numerous New Orleans greats such as “Tan Canary” Johnny Adams, James Booker, and Mose Allison. He has performed at the Voodoo Festival, House of Blues New Orleans and the Windsor Hotel, just to name a few. In addition to this amazing line-up of live music, guests will enjoy fun in the sun on the SOLARIS sky deck as they cruise the local waters while hundreds of crawfish are boiled on the SOLARIS yacht by Louisiana-native Murray and his staff. The SOLARIS Blues, Bugs & Brews Cruise, including food (choice of shrimp, crawfish or jambalaya), live music and a three-hour cruise, is $45/person.
