I don't know where the fairy is or what s/he looks like, but I think I found the wand.
On another thread (There Goes the Neighborhood) I spoke of a strange chain of events that was as unexpectedly good as my previous chain was unexpectedly bad. Lots of delightful things are happening that make me squeal with delight.
On the list of unimportant good things: The facilities manager at school was on me to get a microphone stand fixed this week. One of my drama kids broke it at Christmas. At first he said that he would use maintenance's budget to get it fixed since drama didn't have a budget last year*, but then he came back and said I needed to take it out of the music budget. I didn't have a problem with that, other than having one more thing to do.
That very day, I went in to rearrange a storage closet (which is 90% of my job, it seems!) and started to move 3 big, flat cardboard boxes that were stuck on a shelf behind giant speakers. Guess what was in them?
Magic wands!
Kidding. The boxes contained 3 brand new microphone stands. They weren't the same type as the one that was broken, but the facilities guy didn't care. I was actually able to fix the broken one with some parts I found in the same closet, too.
I told the facilities guy that I think I have a fairy godmother. Every time I clean out a closet, I find some new bibbity bobbity bling.
But wait--there's more! I moved on to the closet that had all the big concert percussion in there--big-@$$ed bass drum, chimes, gong, etc. because I needed to get some snare cases out of the back of it. I had to move another long, thin case out of the way to get to them. I'd never opened that case before, so I decided to check it out.
It was a GIANT magic wand!

This isn't a real picture of it--my camera's busted--but it was a mace of natural wood with what appears to be a solid silver head. It has a silver crown on the top, the school's name engraved around the center, and the school crest engraved on the side.
It also was pretty well dented. I think the boys confused it with a real mace and whacked each other with it:
I showed it to the facilities guy, and he asked if we didn't have a new mace. I said that we do, but it's a cheesy one, like the one in the middle of the next picture. The only thing about it that relates to our school is a silver eagle attached to the top:
Facilities guy was so impressed with the "magic wand" that he's going to have it worked on for me to use at special ceremonies, or to hang on the wall, or both. As soon as my camera works, I'll take pictures.
How long is Mercury supposed to be my friend? I'm really enjoying this!
*Drama got a big chunk of the enormous budget reinstated this year--economy be damned!
