Friday and Saturday I got to spend plenty of time watching live music at the French Quarter Festival. Here are a few acts I saw that I wanted to share with you.

Grayson Capps-Arrived late to the show, but thought most everyone would enjoy his music. Here is a video that is kinda cheesy, but you get the idea.

Next on stage was a band called Country Fried.

After that was this 16 year old girl named Amanda Shaw. I knew who she was, and knew she could play the fiddle better than I ever could, but she was incredible live...I have never seen anyone play the thing so well. This youtube clip looks to be a year or two old as she is more mature now, but she is still all of 16. If you ever have a chance to see her play, DO NOT MISS IT!

Last on stage was Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers. I tried to get Miss Kitty to make a detour but she just wouldn't.

All the while there was a Caribbean and roots stage nearby that I went to from time to time. No acts on youtube to post though.

Next day was Saturday. Kinda rainy, so I didn't head out until late. Went to the New Orleans stage to see my current favorite Kermit Ruffins. He actually got married yesterday on the stage...it was great.

Next was Big Sam's Funky Nation...what can I say, there is something special about a giant man blowing into a gigantic trombone. Note to self and others-he will be at Baytowne Wharf May 30th!

Watched the Treme Brass Band on the way back to the ferry (I have the world's best commute [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no6AxG6Xw7I"]YouTube - Dusk on the Algiers Ferry[/ame] ) and home.

It is killing me that I am stuck at work today and missing day 3:bang:

And in case you are wondering, the price to enter the French Quarter Fest? Free! Are you kidding me?! http://fqfi.org/index.php?id=12,73,0,0,1,0

skunk - this french quarter fest report is awesome! loved it all! down to the ferry ride!!!

do you play fiddle???

thanks!:clap_1: and sorry you are stuck at work today.

No, just pointing out that I casually knew she was really talented, but sometimes you simply have no concept of how incredible somebody is at something until you see it and hear it for yourself. You need to come check it out next year, and you sure as heck ought to go see Big Sam in Destin. I am telling you, it is unlike anything else when you see it live. Once Rapunz and I went to this tiny little music club called the Funky Butt (!) and they were so close to us I thought he was going to smack us with the trombone. Ditto for Kermit Ruffins, we went and saw him at a sparsely populated bar the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It blows your mind to see and hear these performers in real life.

My dad and stepmom lived in Slidell for about 3 years. I was living in Mobile at the time, and I went to the FQF with my parents the 3 years they lived in Slidell. We enjoyed it so much more than Jazz Fest. I am glad you had a good time Skunky. Thanks for the report it was GRAYT!!!! :clap_1:

:clap_1: ...thanks for sharing your funn with us. I have not listened yet, but I will.

Skunky sounded like a kid in a candy store when I talked to him. Of course, liquor is quicker. :D

That's some good groovin' music Skunky. No wonder you're :pissed: you have to work today. I have never heard zydeco music live and if Dikki Du is anything as good as Dopsie then I totally understand why Miss Kitty is addicted. That music would definitely get me on my feet. :clap_1:
