Chef Jim Shirley’s newest restaurant will be opening soon at at the foot of the 331 Bridge in South Walton across from The Bay Restaurant - it's on the water at the site of the old Three-Thirty-One Cafe, and Bailey's.

North Beach Tortilla Co. will offer 100 tequilas behind the 100-foot beach bar overlooking the Choctawhatchee Bay and 331 Bridge. Look for South by Southwestern flavors layered on farm and gulf-to-table goods. It's a North Florida Taco & Tequila joint - a hangout where you want to go every chance you get to enjoy tequila and great food.

Jim Shirley gave me a tour recently and conveyed that the concept of "North Beach" is to unify businesses and market the 331 bay area. For instance, the Bay Restaurant will be marketed as "The Bay at North Beach". They are hoping other businesses will be established nearby, like a hotel, etc.

North Beach Tortilla Co. will open in the next few weeks on the ground level. The upstairs renovation will take a bit longer. It will be "Farm & Fire - A Southern Pizzeria" with huge open ovens in a glassed-in, elevated kitchen that can be seen from the main dining area. The ovens hot 850 degrees and will be used not just for pizza but other roasted/baked dishes like fresh fish.

The renovation is impressive. The building feels even bigger, open, and airy than ever, with higher ceilings. When finished, the evolution of the building and property will be complete, and it will be a first-class facility with very large indoor spaces on two levels and massive outdoor decks, beach seating, and even a band shell on the dock. The business will be able to handle any size events, and will also have the property, beach and dock to the west if needed.
