Where the Rubber Meets the Road – Taking Your Meditation Practice into Everyday Life

WHAT? This is the fifth in a series of Mindfulness Retreats sponsored by the Emerald Coast Meditation Society (ECMS). It will include multiple 30 to 45 minute periods of silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, movement meditation, chanting, and talks on Taking Refuge, Creating Intention, Working with Emotions, and Mindfulness of Body.
With the exception of talks and Q&A periods, the retreat will be conducted in silence.

WHEN? Friday May 4th from 6PM-9PM (6 - 6:30 Registration & Introductions; 6:30 - 9 Program) and Saturday May 5th from 9AM-5PM. Optional pot luck brunch on Sunday May 6th at 11AM followed by 45 minute one-on-one sessions with Ronya or Pat from 1PM-5PM for a sliding scale donation of $60-$85. Sunday location TBD.

WHERE? Parish hall of Christ the King Episcopal Church, 480 N. Co. Rd. 393, Santa Rosa Beach (Walton County)

COST? Sustaining registration $95, Supporting registration $120 (this will allow us to provide scholarships), Early Bird registration $85 until March 31. Scholarships are available, just ask. Participants will need to bring a bag lunch on Saturday.
In addition, dana — voluntary donations in the Buddhist tradition —will be collected for retreat leaders at the retreat.

WHO are our retreat leaders?

Ronya Banks is founder and lead teacher of the Asheville Insight Meditation Center in Asheville, North Carolina. She began her meditation practice in 1985, and has spent over a year on silent residential Insight Meditation retreats with over 30 different teachers.

In addition to experience as a Theravada Buddhist nun, Ronya is also a graduate of the Spirit Rock & Insight Meditation Society's joint Community Dharma Leader Program. She has been teaching for over a decade and leading silent meditation retreats all over the world. She is known for distilling complex subjects into easily digestible teachings.

Pat Carlyle is a Mindfulness Meditation teacher in Santa Rosa Beach. She began her meditation practice over 40 years ago and is dedicated to offering the teachings of spiritual practices that awaken our natural wisdom and compassion. She holds her M.Ed in Psychoeducational Processes and Organizational Development, and is currently studying with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach in their Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program.

Sunday Events

11:00 AM Pot luck brunch

1PM to 5PM Private sessions are for participants who would like a one-on-one session with a meditation teacher regarding their practice or a current challenge in their life. These will be offered first come-first served and sign up can take place at registration or on the day of the retreat if space is available. They will be 45 minutes long and will be offered (place TBD) on a sliding donation scale of $60-$85.
