Chief Ryan Crawford Officially Sworn In/Pinned
During the South Walton Fire District’s Annual Awards Ceremony held this past Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, Assistant Chief Ryan Crawford was officially sworn in and pinned as the new SWFD Fire Chief/ Administrator.
With nearly 180 employees, family and friends in attendance, they all watched as SWFD Fire Board Chairman Maurice Gilbert first presented Crawford with the fire chief’s helmet and then read the Fire Chief’s Oath. Once Crawford repeated the oath, his badge and collar brass were officially “pinned” onto him by his family (wife Heather, son Corey and daughter Taylor).
Chief Crawford was unanimously appointed as the new South Walton Fire District Fire Chief / Administrator (effective date March 1, 2019) during a special SWFD Executive Board meeting held on December 17, 2018. The appointment was made after former Fire Chief Rick Talbert announced his retirement in early December 2019.
Chief Crawford joined South Walton Fire District in 2001 as a Firefighter/Paramedic and made his way through the ranks as Division Chief of Emergency Medical Services in 2006, and Assistant Chief of Fire Rescue Operations in 2011.
Chief Crawford is a licensed paramedic, a state certified fire instructor, and holds associate degrees in both Liberal Arts and Emergency Medical Services. Crawford obtained an undergraduate certificate from Florida State University in Emergency Management and Homeland Security and is a graduate of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association’s prestigious Emergency Services Leadership Institute (ESLI). Crawford is completing his undergraduate work in Public Administration and intends to graduate this spring.
Chief Crawford serves as the regional coordinator for the State of Florida’s Statewide Emergency Response Plan for Region 1, is an active member of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Florida Association of Special Districts.
Crawford is married to Heather Davis Crawford and they currently reside in Freeport, Florida.
It was undoubtedly one of the most important and well received highlights of the ceremony.
