Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast is offering community education/support group opportunities throughout November, including stroke and breast-cancer support groups, classes in diabetes management and tobacco cessation, and seminars on financial matters, and healthy living to senior adults. The hospital also hosts a monthly blood drive by OneBlood, including wellness checks for participants.

Stroke Support Group Meets November 9

All stroke survivors, caregivers and family members are invited to attend the monthly Stroke Support Group at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast to learn more about stroke, share experiences and become inspired to keep moving forward after surviving a stroke.

The support group will meet Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at 3 p.m. in the Suite 3 Conference Room at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

Facilitated by Teri Hinckley, Physical Therapist from the Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Department, the Stroke Support Group gives survivors and caregivers an opportunity to share their experiences and gain strength and knowledge from others who have been through a similar event. "Maintaining Financial Health & Balance in Retirement” is Topic of Financial Matters Seminar on November 16

Guest speaker and president of Mainstay Financial Group, Annalee Leonard, will discuss the financial options, opportunities, and pitfalls commonly faced by retirees. The seminar will take place on Monday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in the Family Birth Place Conference Room, at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach. Sacred Heart to Host Breast-Cancer Support Group November 17

Breast cancer patients and survivors are invited to join the monthly breast-cancer support group meeting at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. in the Olson Women’s Diagnostic Center.

The mission of the support group is to empower breast-cancer patients and survivors through education, spirituality, support and humor. Benefits of joining a cancer-support group include an increased self-esteem, enhanced sense of community, and the joy of giving and receiving encouragement and hope. Sacred Heart to Host Blood Drive November 11

Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast will host the Oneblood mobile unit on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the main entrance of the hospital. Donating one unit of blood can help save three lives!

All donors will receive a free t-shirt and a meal ticket to the hospital’s café. Oneblood will also provide a free wellness check for all blood donors, including blood pressure, temperature, iron count and cholesterol screening.

Alzheimer’s Support Group Meets November 24

The Covenant Alzheimer’s Support Group meets on the last Tuesday of every month from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the Suite 3 Education Center at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. “Healthy Holiday Eating” is topic of November 18 Seminar

Sacred Heart Senior Spirit program hosts its November Healthy Living Seminar featuring Sarah Lowe, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast’s Dietitian. “Healthy Holiday Eating” is the topic, and Sarah will answer questions posed by seminar participants. The free community-education seminar will be Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast Resource Center, Suite 3 Conference Room. Sacred Heart to Host free “Quit Smoking Now” Classes Beginning November 4


“Quit Smoking Now” is a comprehensive tobacco cessation program that combines group support and Nicotine Replacement therapy in a 6-week program led by a Tobacco Treatment Specialist. Meetings are an hour and occur once a week for the duration of the 6-week program. During the program, participants learn about managing tobacco addiction, coping with withdrawal symptoms, how to prevent relapse, as well as how to manage stress through lifestyle changes.

The 6-week series of classes begin Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m., and continues each Wednesday night through Dec. 9 in the Suite 1 Education Building at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. Diabetes Self-Management Class Offered November 4

Have you or a loved-one been diagnosed with diabetes? Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast invites you to join the next diabetes self-management class on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The class will take place in the Resource Center Suite 1 Education Building at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

Led by Jenny Stuckey, registered nurse and certified diabetes educator, and Anne Townley, registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, the class is open to adults with diabetes who are looking for ways to manage their disease. Key topics include exercise, medication and nutrition for patients to reduce the symptoms of diabetes. Physician referral and pre-registration are required to attend the class. Most major insurance plans are accepted.
