SEASIDE celebrates Mardi Gras with fun for the entire family!

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler! The Merchants of Seaside host a fun-filled day of Mardi Gras revelry with activities for everyone on Saturday, February 21st.

Celebrate Mari Gras with the children between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM as 4KIDS hosts a makeyour-own-mask event and other fun Mardi Gras crafts with help from Abrakadoodle.

At 2:00 PM, join us for the Third Annual 4KIDS Mardi Gras Parade, featuring the Krewe of Wee-De-Leis. Wear your purple, green & gold to show off your Mardi Gras spirit as you march though Seaside. The parade starts in front of 4KIDS and makes its way around Central Square. Both the young and young at heart will enjoy the afternoon festivities.

Following the parade, the events continue as the Seaside Amphitheater plays host to the Inaugural Zydeco Fais Do-Do, from 2:30-5:00 PM. The Seaside Neighborhood School band kicks off the dance party at 2:30 PM and then Lil? Malcolm & the House Rockers hit the stage at 3:00 PM. This five-man band has a steady focus on tradition that sets them apart from the newest wave of pop Zydeco bands. The group places a strong emphasis on creating live shows that are exciting and fun, and they are known for pulling audience members up on the stage to dance. Lil? Malcolm & the House Rockers believe that keeping tradition in Zydeco is the best way to make the music enjoyable. Lil? Malcolm & the House Rockers are sure to please. Don?t miss this live concert from the Seaside bayou guaranteed to keep your toes tapping!

A special thanks to this year?s Mardi Gras sponsors, Amavida Coffee, 4KIDS and Central Square Records. These events are made possible by the arts and entertainment fee collected by The Merchants of Seaside. For more information on our community, please visit us online at: www.seasidefl.com.

It's a beautiful morning along 30A and Seaside will be the place to celebrate Mardi Gras (a few days early). Join 4kids, Amavida and Abrakadoodle as we offer some wonderful children's art projects from 10AM-2PM and stick around for our annual parade throughout town!

Then join us for some live music from the Seaside Neighborhood School from 2:30-3:00PM and the Zydeco sounds of Lil' Malcolm & the House Rockers from 3:00-5:00PM.

See you at Seaside!

What a wonderful time at Seaside...thanks to all who made the afternoon great. Especially enjoyed the emphasis on the children--the hats, masks, necklaces, and the (loud) noisemakers were great funn.

My granddaughter had a marvelous time especially when she found some school mates to chase around --Granma met a wonderful Canadian couple in town for the day visiting from their Snowbird Condo in FWB..they were so complimentary of our beautiful area. They were sad to think of leaving next week for their still cold home in Ottawa, but they will be back.

The wide variety of pets was entertaining...

And, the music was awesome as always.

Another great day in our beautiful area.:clap:

Central Lockup draws quite a crowd as Mardi Gras nears
by Katy Reckdahl, The Seaside Times
Saturday February 21, 2009, 9:33 PM

Between 12:01 a.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday, more than 300 people were booked at Seaside Central Lockup, presumably not a place any of them wanted to be. But a glance through their booking photos found many with goofy grins.

Almost all of the people arrested were charged with public drunkenness, often combined with resisting arrest or disturbing the peace.

Allegations of disturbing the peace cited various offenses, such as fighting, threats or "tumultuous manner." One 48-year-old man was booked Saturday at 4 a.m. with disturbing the peace by "refusing to go to sleep or leave for home."

Most allegedly drunken men in their 20s and 30s were also booked with lewd conduct, the typical charge for people caught urinating in public.

One man was booked for spitting on the sidewalk, another for trying to avoid paying a cab fare and a third for not paying for a drink. Two were nailed for parking in handicapped spots and several for "crossing or traversing a police cordon."

Two were brought on suspicion of prostitution, one allegedly charging $20 for her services and the other $100.

Not surprisingly, some pockets and purses allegedly held drugs, usually marijuana but also cocaine, codeine, heroin and prescription pills.

One man was booked with trying to distribute "false drugs."

Judging from the arrests, the traffic division was also industrious, hauling in many drivers without proper licenses or registration and charging at least one motorist under city statute 154-387, which prohibits "driving on curbs."

Parade-goers who hadn't paid Watercolor or Rosemary Beach tickets also found themselves sitting at Central Lockup, awaiting transfer to other jails.

Some clearly went too far while letting the good times roll. Just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 50-year-old California woman was booked with "obscene live conduct." Two minutes later, a 44-year-old California man with the same last name was booked on the same charge.

Both scowled in their booking photos.

This is fake.

It was a great afternoon at Seaside! 4Kids and Amavida had a great setup for the kids to make Mardi Gras masks and noisemakers, then the blinged out kids paraded around Seaside. I think there will be sequins and glitter in the bricks for awhile- and I hope the town cleanup crew leaves it because it looks fun!

Lil' Malcolm and The House Rockers were lots of fun, and drew a large crowd. There were many smiling snowbirds, and lots of local families and kids playing everywhere.

ToofarTampa and Katiefunn showed up 15 minutes before we had to leave- we loaded her up with beads, and she started moving and grooving!
