"Signs at the County Line"
"I was at the farmers market in Paxton a week ago, and from talking to people they don’t like the sign at the county line. I asked my cousin that lives in Paxton near Lakewood, the highest elevation in Florida, about the sign and he and his wife’s family don’t like it ether. While I was coming from Milton on Hwy 90 , I saw another sign before I got to Mossyhead, this is where I go upset. These signs separate Walton County from the beaches. The sign in Paxton is 54 Miles from the beach. It also has a logo of Sowal with a south Walton website on the sign. I feel these signs are designed to separate Walton County and would like to have them changed to include all of Walton County. I have not found out who put up the signs, but I plan on talking to the mayor of Paxton and Freeport in the next few months, while I investigate this. The sign on Hwy 90 is a old sign and has been there a few years, seems like I remember them from the early 2000’s , with the growth in Mossyhead they are inappropriate for today, as Mossyhead is experiencing at boom, as Paxton is also growing. I have a good solution, like Welcome to Historic Walton County established in 1824. As in 6 years we are planning a celebration for our 200 year anniversary. One of my fellow WCHA members Brenda Rees is leading a effort. Plus we have tons of history in north Walton, also the sign from 331 to Lakewood needs to be addressed as being a volunteer at the Walton County Heritage Museum I am constantly asked about other sites to visit. I am asking you to look into this, as with everything you have on your plate, and give me time to gather my information to report back to you. I have no doubt I can get public support behind this effort, there are 6 signs to consider, Paxton, Gaskin, Mossyhead, Choctaw Beach, Ebro, Ponce De Leon, Thanks Stephen"

I tend to agree with Stephen about the signs. We are one county. There is more to the County than just the beaches albeit no one would ever know it because we don't promote Walton County.
