Sea Turtle Nesting Season is May through October in South Walton Florida. We will post information and updates about sea turtles and South Walton Turtle Watch (SWTW) activities this season.

South Walton Fire District
May 2 2022

It's officially Sea Turtle Nesting Season in SoWal! Our partners with South Walton Turtle Watch are asking all of us to work together to keep beaches CLEAN, DARK, and FLAT.

If you see a stranded, sick, injured, and/or distressed sea turtle, call the South Walton Turtle Watch Hotline at 850-865-4503. You can also alert the nearest lifeguard, who will have access to the hotline number as well.

Please remember, all species of marine turtles are protected by the Endangered Species Act. It is against the law to touch, harass, interfere, or interact with sea turtles without a permit. Leave the work of protecting our sea turtles to the professionals.

Please…Leave No Trace.

You can help our nesting sea turtles and their habitat as well as baby hatchlings by following Walton County’s Leave No Trace Ordinance. By removing all belongings, chairs, umbrellas, tents, toys, trash, from the beach each day, you’re helping our sea turtles survive and find their way back to their marine habitat safely. Whatever you carry in, please carry it out. For more information on the ordinance go to:
Leave No Trace Policy

SWTW Friday Report
July 22 2022

Oh, okay girl. #Respect✊…certainly earned by this #greenseaturtle nest!! This is a classic green nest with an elongated body pit, throwing sand for miles (okay, not miles) BUT 10+ feet easily!! Her and her friends helped bring our nest numbers this week…

SWTWG NESTING UPDATE
53 Nests (47 Loggerhead & 6 Green)
27 False Crawls (25 Loggerhead & 2 Green)

We have officially passed our nesting numbers from last season and are on pace for our average season nest numbers!! Woooo!!

As mentioned yesterday, we are now at the peak of our season with both nesting mommas and hatchlings emerging. Let’s keep our beaches #cleandarkflat so our mommas and their babies can do their things safely and successfully!! #thankyou #FriYay
