People are usually surprised to find inside the gates of Wild Heron a community full of fine examples of Craftsman-style architecture.

In the early years of the 20th century, the architectural firm of Greene and Greene designed what would later be known as quintessential Craftsman-style architecture. The firm was steeped in the Art & Crafts movement and influenced by existing California board and shingle buildings. The Craftsman style is defined by low-pitch gable roofs with broad eaves, large front porches, and exposed wooden structural elements.
