SOUTH WALTON FIRE DISTRICT
New Facebook Group and Gofundme campaign to help our local SWFD firefighters and their families from the Panama City area. Please consider giving to this fund.

As most of you know by the pics and your travel to help our friends and neighbors to the east they were hit hard by Hurricane Michael. While our SWFD firefighter/paramedics, E-911 dispatchers, command and support staff were on duty or emergency recalled to protect our community several of our members discovered their homes and vehicles were damaged, some minor and some more severe while they were here protecting others.

Once we completed our damage assessments and found our community to be in good shape other than some trees down, power outages and other utilities like cable being out, SWFD shifted several specialized search and rescue assets we had staged just west of us to Bay County to where we knew the impacts were more severe. Let’s face it, we were blessed beyond comprehension here in Walton County.

Another blessing is that we (SWFD) were able to account for every one of our members that were in the impact area (all marked safe) and get eyes on them and their homes and property to determine their immediate needs. While many of these needs are being met in the short term the reality and the extent of damage places an additional burden on our men and women. They may need help with a safe place to stay while they clean up, renovate/rebuild while continuing to serve and protect South Walton.

Several of our spouses and significant others have pulled together to find ways to assist our firefighters in their time of need. Please consider them and this option as a way to help. As our members needs arise we will look to this page for short and long term solutions.

We are grateful for the genuine and organic way our community helps those in need and I can assure you throwing this out there today is not easy for the men and women who put it on line for our community and others.

I'm happy to talk with you in person if you have any questions.

In Your Service,

Rick Talbert, Fire Chief
South Walton Fire District
