PANAMA CITY BEACH — The 21st annual Spring Rally of Thunder Beach roars to life mid-week, kicking off five days and nights of music, bike shows, contests, runs and more.

The rally kicks into gear Wednesday, May 1, with the official Kick-Start Party from 7-11 p.m. at Hammerhead Fred’s in Panama City Beach. Buck Wild will play live, and the first round of judging in the Miss Thunder Beach Pageant will take place.

“Hammerhead’s has long been a favorite among Thunder Beach regulars,” promoters said in an online post. “It’s always difficult having to choose between their local fresh-from-the-Gulf seafood dishes and the ice cold Apalachicola oysters.”

However, there will be plenty of activity during the day on Wednesday: Harley-Davidson and Indian factory demo rides from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crossroads venue, where the saloon will be open all day; and live music at Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach from 5-8 p.m. with Come Back Alive.

More musical choices Wednesday are Big Engine at Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort from 7-10 p.m.; Sound Arcade from 8 p.m. to midnight at Sharky’s Beach Resort; DJ Q Money at AJ’s of Grayton Beach from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.; and DJ Krush and karaoke at Donovan’s Reef.

Thursday, the rally starts in earnest, as the Vendor Villages open across the beach at numerous locations: Frank Brown Park (host to the Thunder Beach Saloon and the Main Stage), The CrossRoads and The CrossRoads Saloon off Front Beach Road, and Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach. In addition, some vendors will be on-site at official partner venues, including Hammerhead Fred’s and Sharky’s Beach Club; and more live music and entertainment can be found at official sponsor locations including AJ’s of Grayton Beach, Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort, Donavan’s Reef and Salty Hobo.

Activities Thursday include more factory demo rides by Harley-Davidson and Indian from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Bikini Bike Wash at noon at Donovan’s Reef; and photo ops with the Miss Thunder Beach contestants from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Frank Brown Park. Circus Una’s High Wire Motorcycle Stunt Show will perform four times Thursday at Frank Brown Park at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Thursday’s poker run is sponsored by the Shriners and entry fees will benefit the Shrine Children’s Hospital Burn Unit. Registration opens at noon at Sharky’s, with the first bike out at 12:30 p.m. and last at 1 p.m. Card stops will be Buffalo Wild Wings, Sunrise Beach Condominiums, Nick’s Slice of Brooklyn and PCB Winery. Prizes will be awarded at Hammerhead Fred’s, the final stop, at 5 p.m. The second preliminary for Miss Thunder Beach will be at Hammerhead Fred’s at 7 p.m.

The White Tie Rock Ensemble will play a free concert on the Main Stage at Frank Brown Park from 7-10:30 p.m.

Other musical acts on Thursday will include KC Phelps from 10 a.m. to noon at Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach, followed by Anne Cline from 1-4 p.m. and Bearded Brothers from 5-8 p.m.; Derek Givans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Thunder Beach Saloon, followed by Kelly & The Healers from 2-6 p.m.; Tyler Livingston & The Absolutes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Crossroads Saloon, followed by Geneva from 3-7 p.m. and Steve Wiggins Band from 7-11 p.m.; Gary Van Brocklin from 2-5 p.m. at Sandpiper Beacon, followed by Big Engine from 5-8 p.m. and Tobi Lee & Mustang Sally from 8-11 p.m.; Buck Wild from 7 p.m. to midnight at Hammerhead Fred’s; Jason Tyler Findley from 5-9 p.m. at AJ’s of Grayton, followed by a karaoke party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sound Arcade from 8 p.m. to midnight at Sharky’s.

And that’s just the introduction, as the main attractions will take place Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, with smaller end-of-weekend events on Sunday, April 27. For details on those days of the rally, see next week’s Entertainer.
