Saturday night a little before 10 pm, deputies in District 4 responded to the Hogtown Bayou boat ramp on N County Highway 393 after a caller reported a vehicle in the water.
Deputy Pitoniak arrived on scene along with Sergeant Josh Bennett. When he ran to the end of the dock, Deputy Pitoniak saw hands on the steering wheel inside the truck.
Without hesitation Pitoniak removed his gear and dove into the water, swimming to the submerged vehicle.
The male driver was clearly disoriented and Deputy Pitoniak had to forcefully remove him from truck, carrying him through the water to the dock where Sergeant Bennett pulled him up.
Pitoniak then swam back out to the submerged truck to make sure to no one else was inside. Pitoniak and the driver were evaluated by South Walton Fire District for injuries.
Pitoniak’s night didn’t end there.
Once leaving the scene at Hogtown Bayou to go change clothes, he drove up on a crash and immediately rendered aid to victims whose vehicle was rolled over in the middle of Highway 98 at S Church Street.
While still soaked from the previous call, it didn’t stop him from trying to put out a small fire in one of the vehicles involved in the crash and from then meeting deputies where they found the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash.
What a night. Job well done, Pitoniak and District 4 Bravo shift.
