Volunteers are needed at the Pierce Family Children’s Advocacy Center in DeFuniak Springs. The DeFuniak center is a part of the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC), whose mission is to prevent child abuse, neglect and protect children, thereby restoring the lives and futures of these impacted children.
Children are not housed at the center, but numerous services are offered to the child victims and their families at no cost to include mental health therapy, crisis intervention, referrals to other community providers, interviews and medicals.
“We are always in need of volunteers in various capacities, but currently we have a critical need for front desk volunteers.” Said Chelsea Fox, ECCAC’s volunteer/event coordinator. “Volunteers are responsible for meeting and greeting guests and clients, monitoring children while parents and caregivers are meeting with ECCAC staff, baking cookies, accepting donations, helping with thank you letters and answering the phones. All volunteers must be fingerprinted and take a class before scheduling a shift on their own.”
For more information, or to volunteer, call Chelsea Fox at 850-833-9237, Ext. 256, or email her at chelsea@eccac.org. If you suspect abuse, report it by calling the anonymous Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE.
