Walton TDC executive director stepping down
Friday January 18th, 2008

After nine years at the helm of the Walton County Tourist Development Council, Executive Director Kriss Titus is stepping down.

Titus is planning on starting her own tourism consulting company, said Tracy Louthain, spokeswoman for the TDC.

Titus will make a formal announcement at a special meeting on Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the TDC office on U.S. 98. The TDC will then decide on how to replace Titus, Louthain said.

The resignation will take effect on Feb. 15, said Walton County Commissioner Cindy Meadows.

Titus could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon because she was ?on the road,? Louthain said.

Titus shepherded South Walton from a loose collection of 14 different beach neighborhoods into one beach community, Louthain said.
?She?s done an amazing job,? she said. ?She really came in and took hold of it and took it to the next level. It?s a little sad for us. We?ll miss her.?

Yep, the signs brought together the loose collection into one beach community. I am just wondering which "one" beach community she is referring to. The Beaches of South Walton is not a community. It's a marketing thing -- you know, the one with the red and white umbrellas. The problem that exists in SoWal is that there is no central community. I am even surprised to see that Seaside is on the list, especially since they have recently erected the numerous "private" signs. How is that considered to be "bringing the communities together?" As John Stassel (sp?) says, "Give me a break." Other than the bb of SoWal.com and the relationships made from it, the closest thing we have to a centralized community is Grayton Beach, which is open to the public and located in a central area of 30A.

Signs don't make communities. People make communities. If they wanted to bring together the beach communities, and erect signs, they'd have been better off by making SoWal.com signs for 30A, because SoWal.com has more of a sense of community than the TDC will ever have.

quick...someone pass an ordinance that says the tdc can not hire former employees as consultants:D
this should have been done before chris titus hired brad pickel back as a consultant at his same full time salary for about one forth of the time now. $7x,xxx.xx seventy some thousand is a considerable amount of money. again tdc has more money than sense. with so much money at the tdc's disposal the county commissioners should pay more attention to how and for what the money is spent. maybe regular audits, possibly by and accredited outside group would be helpful.
