History of Walton County Sheriff’s Posse - Chick Huettel
This presentation covers the early 1800’s up to today’s modern Posse history. It was a past of dedicated lawmen, coupled with violence and quick justice. The era of cattle rustling, lynching, thieves, killers and bootleggers comes to life in this slide presentation presented by members of the Walton County Sheriff’s Posse. This presentation contains some adult graphic material.

"The Story behind Handel's Messiah" - Maestro Dr. David Ott
Dr. David Ott will present a live musical presentation, “The Story behind Handel’s Messiah”. Ott is an internationally recognized American composer and conductor of classical music whose impressive works have been performed and recorded by some of the most notable orchestras in the United States and Europe. Ranking at the top of post-World War II born American composers, Dr. Ott’s works are among the most frequently performed of any American of the era. He has been cited as “one of the greats of American symphony music composers of the last quarter of the twentieth century.” Once nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in music by renowned cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich, he has composed a large portfolio of compositions in every genre of music from large-scale orchestra works to short overtures. Music Director and Conductor Sinfonia Gulf Coast - Demetrius Fuller
Innovative and energetic conductor, Demetrius Fuller is garnering critical acclaim at home and abroad. A versatile conductor, Mr. Fuller has been chosen to work with some of the world’s most prestigious conductors and orchestras. Mr. Fuller is an award recipient from the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts, the Werner Foundation, and the International Music Foundation. He is entering Season 12 as Music Director of Florida’s Sinfonia Gulf Coast, which he founded in 2006. He is an inventive and dynamic conductor who has gained critical acclaim at home and abroad. Walton County History with Stories and Songs - Historian Ronnie McBrayer
Ronnie McBrayer is author of Wild, Wild, Walton and Down by the Riverside. He will be speaking on local Walton County history through stories and songs such as the beautiful sugar-white beaches of the Florida Panhandle are the result of erosion scientists say and a Florida sand dune we’re told, was once a mountaintop in Georgia but over time that mountain washed all the way down to the sea. Before making his home in Walton County, Florida, Ronnie was a Georgian born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Today having washed down to the sea, he is the author of multiple books and publications, a local pastor, a musician, playwright and a nationally syndicated columnist.

History Mystery - Miramar Beach Was Once Shoals, Florida- Hank C. Klein
Destin historian Hank Klein tells the story of a town that was once where Miramar Beach, Florida is located today. The area that we know as Miramar Beach was once known as Shoals. Today nobody seems to remember Shoals, not even the history buffs. Learn about the long-lost cemetery, as well as who actually named the area we know today as Miramar Beach. Hank Klein has long been interested in the history of Destin, Florida. Hank also has a monthly “History Mystery” column in the Destin Log newspaper.

Great Art Rescues - Helen Balance
Everyone knows the names of great artists, but how many of the names and stories do you know about the people who over the centuries have rescued great art? One may question then, who is more important, the artist or the collector? Is art and culture worth saving? Helen Balance works and lives in the Panama City Beach area. Her passion for painting led to the creation of the Beach Art Group, & The Sunshine Arts Center, Panama City Beach with the mission of growing the arts and culture in our community. Her work is currently on display at The Palms Conference Center. Since Hurricane Michael, she has spearheaded Project Jumpstart Art, designed to collect funds for local artists and to create installation opportunities.

A Musical Presentation,“Living the Dream” – Dr. Cheryl Jones and Company
Since 1988, Cheryl Jones and a merry band of gentlemen have been making funky music together on the Emerald Coast, music that reflects her Detroit roots. Music lifts us. It soothes us, distracts us and keeps us company. Good times or bad, at peace or at play, there’s a soundtrack to our lives. And Cheryl Jones has made it her life’s mission to find or write the perfect song to suit every moment. “Music is a conduit for me,” Jones says. “It flows through me and takes a part of me with it. And I take a part of it with me.” Jones’ music has provided a soundtrack for people along the Emerald Coast since 1988, when, at the urging of a cousin who had already relocated here, Cheryl and her husband, Denny, left their hometown of Detroit and put their roots down in the Florida sand. They formed their band, Jones and Company, the following year. “This community allows us to live the dream,” she says. “The sea breeze is really inspiring. People here are calm, accepting and ready to just go with the flow.” Jones and Company is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with the release of a new CD titled, “Raise the Roof.”
