World Paddle For The Planet 2013 is four day eco-educational festival culminating with a 24-hour paddle on coastal dune Lake Powell in Panama City Beach, Florida. The festival will be held in Carillon Beach and Camp Helen State Park October 10-13, 2013. With satellite events around the world, the purpose is to educate and raise awareness, sending the message worldwide, to “Be the change you want to see!” Funds raised by this event will benefit Justin Riney’s Expedition Florida 500, a project of the non-profit Mother Ocean.

The festival is a family-friendly expo, including NOAA’s booth with ocean creature touch-tanks, and Sara Brenes, known as “TheShark Whisperer” with an interactive exhibit about her work saving sharks. Norm Hann from British Columbia will show his documentary film “Stand”. Bob Purdy and Justin Riney will join other Planet Paddlers from around the world for a public round-table discussion, sharing experiences and ideas for making change. With art, film, family paddle, SUP-yoga, and music, this festival will bean opportunity for attendees to become inspired, and motivated, and to gain tools for making effective change when they return home.

All types of paddle craft are welcome to paddle any portion of or all of the 24 hours, beginning at noon, on Saturday, October 12. For more information and to register either as an individual or as a team of up to 10 members, go to www.worldpaddlefortheplanet.com. To become a sponsor, contact Leslie Kolovich atsupradioshow@gmail.com.

Paddling for the Planet is simply changing one thing in your life for the betterment of the planet, committing to that change, and paddling for that change, until it becomes a reality. It can be so simple as committing to using re-usable water containers instead of buying water bottled in single-use plastics, or it can be as monumental as stopping oil tankers from traveling a pristine area where a spill would be devastating. You choose your change – it’s a personal commitment. By doing this, together, we send a Wave of Change around the world.
