11th Annual Route 30A Car Show in Rosemary Beach

March 21, 2012 by Gwen Break

The 11th Annual Route 30A Car Show, to be held March 25, 2012, at Rosemary Beach, isn’t just about old cars and old music, said show organizer and owner of Hilltop Productions Chuck Hinson said, “It’s more about education than anything else.”

“This is a show where you can touch, feel, ask questions and take pictures,” said Hinson.
Hinson said he stresses that to the car clubs he invites each year. “I tell them, ‘If you don’t want people touching your car or asking you questions, then this may not be the show for you.’

This year, vehicles 1982 or older will be showing for a People’s Choice Award, and new this year, awards for Best Engine, Best Interior and Best Exterior Paint.

“There will be demonstrations, too,” said Hinson. “Stuff like how to properly wax your car, or how to clean your wheels.”

He said at least one participant will have a picture board reflecting the 15 years he spent restoring his vehicle. Two of the participants at the show have written books on restoration.
“This is a show with more substance and less flash,” said Hinson. For example, there will be no hip-hop music but lots more music like Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey.

That educational factor maybe what is drawing many more young people to such shows, said Hinson.

“(The TV show) American Pickers has sparked a lot of interest in younger people. They see what those guys find and what they turn it into and they want to find out how they can do that, too,” said Hinson.

Attendees are encouraged to ask car owners questions on how they restored their cars. “Even if you aren’t restoring a car, it’s interesting to hear how they found their car and what it means to him or her.”

This year’s show will benefit the Muscogee Nation of Florida - Florida Tribe of Eastern Creek Indian Food Bank in Bruce.

There is no charge to view the car show. Cost to exhibit a vehicle is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. For more information, contact Hinson at (850) 951-2148 or visit www.hilltopproductionsinc.com.
