Jumpin' and Jammin' Fishing in July

July 15, 2017 by Larry Pentel

I know, it's been awhile since I sat down and did a report but the Gulf has been calm, the fish have been biting and I have been steady runnin' every day. This afternoon we had a bunch of thunderstorms pop up that made me cancel my PM trip so I am trying to catch up some.

We have been limiting out on Red Snappers on the Fridays , Saturdays and Sundays they are open. While most are "regular size" I have had some folks catch a few downright BIG Un's the past couple weeks.

The grouper bite has been pretty slow, we get one or two bites a trip and most times the folks just aren't ready for 'em and they get in the bottom. Still plenty of Vermillions around and the King bite has pretty good to down right HOT some days. Some scattered Mahi around, anything floating that has been in the water a while has green jumpin' machines on it. Always a surprise "bonus" fish to pop up every few days. I had anglers land a big Blackfin one day and the biggest Tripletail I have seen off Grayton another the past week.

Here's the proof....

These folks were ready for the Grouper bite and 3 fine ones along with a limit of Red Snapper, a King and some Vermillions.

A 4th of July week crew of regulars with a great catch of Red and Black Snappers. Yes, the gal caught the most.. and the biggest.

These folks got 2 BIG Red Snappers in their limit.

Weekday? Red Snappers not open? No problem! catch a pile of Kings, a fine Mahi, some BoBo's and big Vermillions on a morning 4 hour.

Or, even MORE Kings and a cobia 'stead of a Mahi.

Just 2 folks and we caught our 4 red snappers pretty quick...plenty of time to catch some Kings and BIG Black Tuna on a 4 hour.

Look at the size of that Snapper.. That was "birthday fish" for one of the boys in this group of regulars.

I'll be here at Grayton/Seagrove for another couple weeks, chasing Red Snapper on the weekends and everything else during the week. I am going over to Indian pass on August 8th for Tarpon and Tripletails and coming back here for labor day weekend. As of right now I have 3 days left open at the 'Pass and 2 days at Grayton (1 is a "snapper" day).

Go on out there and catch something!
