Let's Get Happy at Marlin Grill

April 8, 2016 by Audrey Johnson

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, and Marlin Grill is the perfect place to get happy. For the first time since opening their doors, Marlin Grill is rolling out happy hour nightly from 5-7. And when happy hour meets superior dining, showing up is kind of a no brainer.

The SoWal staff met up at Marlin Grill for drinks and small plates, and we left with a few new friends and a favorite new hang out spot. The Marlin Grill crew knows how to have a good time and they make sure to get everyone in on the fun.

Fun is spelled w-i-n-e. And while Marlin Grill’s happy hour vino is chosen for its superior quality, it’s just $6 a glass. Whites are chilled to a perfect 39 degrees, while reds are served at their ideal 55 degrees. If your mantra is ‘wine is fine but liquor’s quicker’, then you won’t be left out. Choice well spirits are $6, and cold domestic beers go for $3.

Everybody shows up to happy hour for the drinks, but it’s the food that takes Marlin Grill’s happy hour to a whole new level. The fine dining restaurant has been the pulse of the Village of Baytowne Wharf for 14 years, earning a high reputation for some of the best seafood and steaks in South Walton.

Kobe Beef Carpaccio and Pepper Seared Ahi Tuna redefine the notion of surf and turf. Paper thin US Kobe beef is served on a bed of greens and the dish gets tons of flavor from capers, parmesan and creamy vinaigrette. Sushi grade Pepper Seared Ahi Tuna also finds a place to rest on a bed of greens with a savory vinaigrette. Both are melty and wonderful.

It’s all in the details at Marlin Grill, from the relaxed vibe down to the hand cut fries. And if you’re all about the handhelds, Duck Spring Rolls are happy-making indeed. During happy hour, small plate specials range from $5 to $16, with most falling in the $9 sweet spot.

Word of advice? Save room for dessert. Many local restaurants claim to have homemade Key lime pie, because…Florida. Well, Marlin Grill actually does, and it’s freakin’ fantastic. Especially with a glass of wine. Or two.

Marlin Grill is the perfect place to have a light dinner and drinks before the nightly Baytowne festivities kick off. Grab a seat on the veranda and hear some live music during the Wednesday Night Concert Series, or take in a fireworks show over the lagoon on Boomin’ Tuesdays.

“On Tuesday nights when they do fireworks, we have a nice balcony you can look out on,” says Marlin Grill Manager David Chiasson.

Over the last 14 years, Marlin Grill has built a reputation for outstanding hospilatity, delicious dishes and fine wines. The wine vault has over 600 bottles to choose from. Marlin Grill absolutely does not compromise on quality, and in just a short couple of months it has become one of the most buzzed about happy hours in SoWal. We can't wait to go back!

Marlin Grill is located in the Village of Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Look for a replica of the largest blue marlin ever caught in the Gulf of Mexico hanging out front. Reservations are accepted online at marlingrill.com or by calling (850) 351-1990. View the interactive menu online and visit Marlin Grill on Facebook for the latest info.
