Shop Like a Local for Excellent Local Music

December 20, 2012 by Danny Burns

While shopping for your holiday goodies this year – and keeping it local we hope – keep in mind we have many local musicians and bands that offer great stocking stuffers. Treat yourself and your loved ones to some local music for Christmas!

Whether you’re a SoWal resident or just want to experience a little bit of the beach vibe where you live, consider some of the following when giving the everlasting gift of music this holiday season. These gifts will truly keep on giving.

Boukou Groove – For some R&B/Funk New Orleans style, Boukou Groove’s got your number. If you like what you hear, give Donnie Sundal’s solo album a listen. Find them here.

Bryan Kennedy - Singer/Songwriter/Storyteller, Bryan Kennedy always has something to say…usually in a humorous way. There are lots of songs to choose from here, including a brand new Christmas song.

Chris Alvarado - Beachcomber Music Awards gave him a Best Singer/Songwriter on the Emerald Coast Award. His recently released, self-titled collection of heart-felt songs paint an acoustic picture with songs like “Searching”. There’s a touch of Chris’ sense of humor on “Find My Way”, and the whimsical “Reservation For Two”. The album can be found here.

Cody Copeland – Cody has a very artful, indie sounding approach to music and a wide variety of music to choose from here.

Dannica Lowery – If you’re in a giving mood this Christmas, you can invest in local songstress, Dannica Lowery’s, Indiegogo project and get music for your effort. Help her out and pick your perk here.

Dread Clampitt – Bluegrass/Newgrass/Funk/Blues…you name it, Dread delivers. Acoustically delight your ears with a CD or download SoWal’s favorite party band here.

Eric Lindell – Blues/Rock with an emphasis on Eric’s fine picking is what you’ll find when you shop here.

Forrest Williams Band – Rock/Blues/Country fans will love Forrest’s music. For the latest CD, visit his Facebook page here.

Geoff McBride – Local celebrity and NBC’s “The Voice” contestant, Geoff McBride is one of the three on this list who actually have Christmas music available for download. While you’re there, you might want to download some of Geoff’s other great R&B music. You can find all it on his website here.

Heritage – Local band, Heritage, could get any Christmas or New Year’s party going with their brand of Reggae/Rock.

The Owsley Brothers - Quickly becoming an area favorite, The Owsley Brothers will rock you with their self-described “lo-fi garage, experimental Blues/Rock” sound. You can find their music here.

Redd – If standards are your thing, check out Redd’s “Discovered At Last” here. Give a listen to her Christmas album while you’re there and download a song or three to add to your iPod for the holiday season.

Hubba Hubba – If Southern funky blues is your style, check out Duke, Franko and the boys “Live at The Red Bar”. You can find their CDs at Central Square Records in Seaside or order one by phone at 850-225-3024.

Share the Shelter CD – For a sampling of many local artists on one convenient CD, the “Share the Shelter” album is what you want. Central Square Records and Grayt Coffee House are selling them to benefit the Share the Shelter Foundation and Alaqua Animal Refuge.
