Sophisticated Scraps Full of Antiques and Amazing Collections of Unique Items

After years of collecting and gathering unique vintage treasures, Matthew Lansing and Jennifer Pollard have opened their own store in Grayton Beach. Sophisticated Scraps is a small shop bursting with antiques and collectibles. The duo also have considerable skills and offer customized crafts.
Sophisticated Scraps specializes in unique items to add to your collections, decorate your home, serve as great gifts, or to use in creating your own customized craft projects.
"I come from a long line of antique and craft lovers, Matthew says. "My mother has been a collector for years. I remember well when we'd wake up extra early to make sure we could get to all of the yard sales in Baltimore and have first pick of the great treasures that were available."
Flea markets and antique shows were also tops on the agenda for Matthew and his mother. Their treasure grew and soon filled up an entire storage unit. After looking through the many, many boxes of lace buttons and linens, and thousands of vintage postcards and books, Matthew and Jennifer decided to take the next step and open a small on-line business.
After organizing and categorizing everything, it became apparent that it would be impossible to display all of the treasures online, so an actual store was the next step.
Sophisticated Scraps offers a wide variety of unique items:
• Vintage linens, lace, and clothing
• Buttons and beads
• Vintage sewing items, including silk embroidery thread
• Quilts and quilt blocks, including wonderful children’s coverlets and christening pillows
• Refinished and repurposed furniture
They also specialize in ephemera and books, including an extensive collection of turn of the century Victorian needlework books and lace patterns and framed vintage wine, whiskey and fruit crate labels.
Also on hand is a large library of vintage paper items, such as early 1900’s postcards and die cuts, that have been completely cleaned up and digitized, and can be used for any crafting project you can think up.
Great examples are the seasonal garlands and banners made from these images, as well as some "vintage" Grayton Beach t-shirts on display.
"Sophisticated Scraps is a place where you can take your time and rummage through treasures, just like my mom and I did years ago," says Matthew. "If you are looking for that unique item for your home, your celebration, or your collection, Sophisticated Scraps is the place for you."
Jennifer and Matthew, or his mother and father, tend the shop every Thursday through Monday. In addition to their store, they offer crafted items on www.etsy.com, with the shop name “sophisticatedscrap” (yes, there is no S at the end), and unique treasures on ebay.com at “mattsophisticatedscraps”.
Matthew and Jennifer's enthusiasm is infectious and they are excited to offer something unique to the area, lots of vintage items as well as some new ideas on how to use them!
Stop in to Sophisticated Scraps at their cute cottage at 85 Arbor Lane, just north of Scenic 30A off Grayton Road (Hwy 283), behind Sherwin WIlliams.
