I did a quiz today online and decided that I infact suffer from adult ADD. I think that this website is one of the main factors. Unfortunately I am just going to have to deal with it. :idontno:

I will stop in the middle of doing something to read the message boards.

I have Adult ADD. Adult ADD does not have me.

Is it Friday yet? :bang:

Jessifunn asked me if I ever work. I told her that I sit at a desk all day. Apparently she does to..but gets work done. :idontno:

Oh my gosh....if I get to meet any one of you I will be diagnosing you! haha

In case you didn't know, I am a licensed mental health therapist .... meaning LICENSED to diagnose these disorders. I have numerous adult clients with ADHD without hyperactivity and with.

My husband is a psychiatrist, he passes out the meds (AKA the good stuff!!) ! :clap_1:

In all seriousness- what does it take to get diagnosed? I have heard stories of KIDS that have to take tons and tons of tests... I would love to even just get a sample of something to see if it really worked on me. I just don't want to go through hours and hours of testing...

A guy I work with said there is some testing required but the real pain is that he has to go back every 3 months to be re-evaluated sp?. This guy is a prime example of ADHD. He is worthless at work when his medication has run out.

I guess i just have my days...I'm pretty useful. I get my work done. I'm just not used to sitting in a cubicle. And I'm a chatty Cathy...so that gets me in trouble too.

Guess I'm gonna have to keep searching for my Pusherman!

You sound like me....if you want to pay attention at any meeting, don't sit next to me! I'm too busy making wise cracks! Used to always make good grades in school and poor marks in conduct..."talks too much!" Drove the teachers mad!

LL I feel your friend's pain. Since my ADD drugs are controlled substances my doc can't call the pharmacy for a refill. So you really have to pay for a dr. visit and your drugs. It's so worth it.

Since I work in community mental health, not in private practice, most people have medical cards, or are provided with samples or put on drug programs where the drug companies supply the medications.

Those who do not have medical cards nor insurance pay the office visit based on income. We charge those people 2, 10, 15 or 20 dollars. CHEAP if you ask me. We charge separately for therapy and for medication management. So, if you see a therapist and doctor on the same day and your co-pay is 10 dollars....you leave with 20 dollars less.

To answer the question, I see adult clients only, though we have therapists here who see the children. The adults I have diagnosed did not undergo any major tests, nothing that cost any money, and I can legally diagnose ADHD. I have two questionnaires I ask them to fill out and I take a LONG good history and go from there!

Personally, I recommend people to see a therapist and psychiatrist for symptoms of ADHD or ANY mental disorders, rather than a family doctor, because we SPECIALIZE in this area, therefore are more trained and experienced than a practitioner who doesn't specialize.

I mean, if you need surgery, you see a surgeon, who is also a doctor but TRAINED/SPECIALIZES in a more specified field.

Ah yes...ADD. I was diagnosed about three years ago, quite by accident. I took my then 15 year old daughter in for 'symtoms of depression'. Had made the appointment in April or May but got in June or July, by this time she tells the Doc she feels fine - schools out, no pressure, no depression. He turned his head to the side and (right hand raised) a light bulb sprung up over his noggin. He explained, it was probably never depression in the first place, but a symptom of ADD. He asked her several questions and wanted her to fill out a questionaire. As he explained in more detail why he suspected ADD, my head turns to the side and (right hand raised) a light bulb sprung up over my noggin. (Mirror in the room. For those who wondered how I would know.) I took the test as well and I have to tell you that was one of the best scores I've ever had! Be warned, once you start taking your meds, you'll be darn near PERFECT!!!!! (Ridalin, does not effect humility.) :D
