WASHINGTON ? On paper, Representative Alan Grayson, a freshman Democrat from Florida, seems a bit stiff: degrees from Harvard and Harvard Law; a r?sum? that includes clerking for the United States Court of Appeals under Judges Antonin Scalia, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Robert Bork; an advocate for the aging.

But in recent weeks, Mr. Grayson has catapulted himself to national renown for outlandish rhetoric and a pugilistic political style that makes him seem less staid lawmaker than a character on the lam from one of his Orlando district?s theme parks.

First it was his comment, ?If you get sick, America, the Republicans? health care plan is this: Die quickly.? Then, appearing on MSNBC, he said of former Vice President Dick Cheney: ?I have trouble listening to what he says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he?s talking.? Finally, a radio interview surfaced in which he had called a female adviser to the Federal Reserve chairman ?a K Street whore? ? a reference to her former job as a Washington lobbyist. That one forced him to make a formal apology.......he was correct in his characterization of the fed consultant

Kinda like shouting out "you lie" when the President has the floor. At least Grayson has the floor when he says what he wants to say.

I admire him for telling the truth. There was a republican President in the white house for the last eight years with taxpayer funded health insurance and every politician fighting against affordable insurance for the uninsured are sitting on their behinds, not worried because they and their families have taxpayer funded insurance. He stands up for the people who died without insurance and he is called a nut. Go figure.

People like me, who work for small business and can't get the same lower rates that large companies can get don't have someone to stand up for them. If I get sick and need surgery, I die.
From where I'm sitting, he told the truth.

If your small business employer had his taxes cut dramatically, maybe he could slide a little your way where you could afford more coverage.....We're back to the same ole arguement....sorry

Do you HONESTLY believe that repubs would try any legislation that says "die quicker" or "hurry up and die" ???? No more than I beleive there are "death panels" in the dems 2000 page tree killer....

No, I don't believe the death panel junk, Blair and I don't expect my employer to take care of everything, but I do expect the powers that be to understand that without their health their nation is weak.

I did not agree with any of the bailouts, but having some type of system in place to insure the citizens of this nation is a necessity. And it might as well have been their plan, because they have had eight years to do anything, and they chose not to. No plan equals, you die without insurance.

I expect the politicians on both sides to embrace real reform instead of fight it tooth and nail. I feel like those who have taxpayer funded insurance, should forgo it or be called hypocrites if they fight against other citizens who want affordable coverage that can't be canceled or denied when they need it.

If Grayson is using the same tactics as most of the other side to get people insured, so be it. At least he is not a hypocrite. And instead of talking what ifs as in death panels, he is telling what is happening now, to those who lack coverage.

Guess you need to read slower:clap::clap::clap:

So glad that something that is life or death for many can be handled so lightly, may you never be where many others are by no fault of their own.

I think that if all the politicians had to try and get their own insurance like Aleo and I do, we'd see some progress FAST!

IMO a huge part of the disconnect in the discussion is that people who work for corporations, the government, etc. don't understand what the non-poverty level, employed, small business people are going through - they have it in their heads that it's a deadbeat/illegal issue.

I read your post and thought it was referring to my original post where I said if they have it and fight against others being insured they are hypocrites. I responded to you in anger for twisting the meaning of my post. I apologize if you were not meaning to be a smart arse. If you were, then I have no issue with how I responded.

It is hard to not get emotional about this subject when I see so many that do not care what happens to people who work hard and treat others right, only to be subject to those who do not have to worry about it, because they get insurance from the citizens. Scooterbug, summed up my feeling quite well.

Peace to you, as well.

No..If were trying to be a smart arse, I would leave no doubt.

I agree in that Scooterbug summed it up nicely.
You will find in many of posts regarding health insurance that I also think something desperately needs to be done. I have a son who had cancer when he was younger and do worry about him being denied coverage when he strikes out on his own. So I kind of feel your pain. The only place I think we disagree on is who is better to get this done....

until tomorrow....

The last year and a half is the first time in my life I have been uninsured. I am looking, but it is slim pickings for someone not willing to take a big chance on getting ripped off as an individual buyer.

Thank you for working this out with me. Later tater

your going to compare wilsons idiotic statement to grayson, seriously? fact is, the president was in fact lying. shouting him down was dumb and disrespectful, but he wasnt lying. thats now a historically fact so its a non-issue. perhaps if it was code pink shouting it would be ok?

i am a small biz owner and i assure you you have a gross misunderstanding on this health reform bill. if you think for a second that this plan is going to provide better care, cheaper coverage and will insure everyone you got another thing coming. tax breaks and incentives would drive the costs down overnight and thats a certainty. if i was able to purchase insurance over state lines the costs would drop overnight and that too is a certainty. none of which are in this bill. you wouldnt believe what i pay to provide full coverage to all my employees, but i find a way to make it happen.

people have this notion that this bill is going to save us all and prevent people from dying, a complete theory and will soon become a reality. we need reform, but the real things to keep costs down are nowhere to be found in this bill thus far. perhaps the future will tell a different story.

and grayson is telling the truth by saying that these deaths are caused by republicans? how simple-minded of grayson and why would one take what he says seriously. i watched with my own eyes on the huffpost earlier him calling out the numbers of dead in republican districts. does that make friggin sense what so ever.

please folks, put ideology and emotions aside. we'll never get what we need otherwise.

Yes, I did compare them. Period.

I said reform, not this bill in general. Seriously.

Grayson, imo told the truth, that having no plan, that not working on any plan the last eight years, is allowing people to not have coverage and die. Seriously......

I've spent most of my working career as an independent consultant. Finding good health insurance has never been a problem and it's never been overly expensive. What's the problem you're having? :idontno:

My problem would be the lack of options and the 15-25% premium increase year to year.

And I can actually get it - my friends are denied because of pre-existing conditions.
