Did I ever sucker you all in on that headline. 😀

From the New York Times blogs -

CNN Drops to Last Place Among Cable News Networks - Media Decoder Blog - NYTimes.com

I'd quote a bit but why spoil it, it's all good. Suffice it to say, we tend to like our news partisan. I'm actually kind of proud to admit I spend most of my evenings (except for O'Reilly of course) watching the flagging coverage of CNN.

The article was remarkably fair and balanced. here is my favorite part-

The results demonstrate once more the apparent preference of viewers for opinion-oriented shows from the news networks in prime time.
CNN has steered opinion hosts like Nancy Grace to HLN, while maintaining more news-oriented shows on CNN itself. When news events are not being intensely followed, CNN executives acknowledge, viewers seem to be looking for partisan views more than objective coverage.

So Fox isn't in first place?

Of course you won't because you can not and will not support your arguments.

I think it says a lot about the dumbing-down of America. There's no doubt that we have become a society that has grown accustom to wanting flash rather than substance. Fox is simply a more entertaining version of the news. It would be very sad if CNN has to stoop that low just for ratings. From my understanding, they have a good revenue stream from their internet news feed, which is about the most popular news source on the net.

Here is an example of fair and balanced by Fox - -

Canada: The truth about our health system

Americans have been fed a pack of lies about Canadian health care, said Stephen Lautens in The Calgary Sun.

Stephen Lautens
The Calgary Sun
Americans have been fed a pack of lies about Canadian health care, said Stephen Lautens. I just got back from a trip to the U.S. South, and ?it was an eye-opener.? Everyone was talking about the U.S. health-reform proposals, and the one thing they could all agree on was that they didn?t want to end up like Canada. Fox News and other conservative media outlets routinely claim that in Canada, the government assigns you a doctor and that you have to wait months for an appointment and years for vital, life-saving surgery.

When I told them that we pick our own doctors, see them virtually whenever we wish, and pay nothing for the privilege, ?their jaws dropped.? When I further explained that a ?wildly popular Fox News story? about Canada?s ?hospital death committees??which supposedly pull the plug on old people to save money?was a complete fabrication, I had their rapt attention. ?A small crowd gathered around me at the bar to hear the Canadian tell his magical tale of health-care coverage.? One uninsured American then told me about a $15,000 MRI she was slowly paying off, while those with insurance complained of being unable to afford the medicines their doctors had prescribed.

?When I left that crowd, they were thinking that, even if it?s not perfect, Canada is a pretty good country.?

believe what you want, poppy.

of course fox dominates the ratings, but go ahead and take the new york times word for it. neilsen ratings is all you need to know about the news industry.

enjoy debating a non-story......i got work to do:floor:

It is amusing that we care so much about the source for news a person chooses, yet we could care less about 99% of the other choices that same person/stranger makes. There has been a douche-ification of the tv news industry across the board, and IMO most of us would sincerely appreciate more facts and less slant.

Yep, strictly facts; and, I don't care who is first to figure this out, they will win my viewership.

I agree. If you watch news because the channel you watch verifies your beliefs or if you get worked up or excited over it, it probably contains slant or opinions. Facts are borings, esp,. when delivered without a slant. News is supposed to be news, not entertainment. Entertainment stimulates you, news informs you and then you get to form your own opinion.
