I found this very interesting. In light of the recent school shooting in Pennsylvania, I wanted learn more about this culture. I did some searching and found a good site for it. Thought I would share it with those who are interested.

We pass Lancaster County on our way to visit my inlaws. It was sad to hear about that shooting. They are such peaceful sweet people.
We buy fresh fruit and veggies from them often.
Did anyone see that show on a couple of years ago where they mixed regular teenagers from L.A with Amish teenagers in one house. The Amish were going through their rumspringa. It was very interesting. It was also strange to see them when they went to the beach for the first time in their lives. All of the Amish kids returned back to their homes I believe.

I did see that show, but missed how it all turned out. I saw Amish folks for the first time in my life in Missouri a few years ago.(ok, I don't get out much) I was fascinated. Would love to learn more about them. Thanks KDW for bringing this up. Will get the book, percy.

I don't recall ever seeing the ending of it. :idontno: I think they cancelled it before it was finished. I really wanted to know what the Amish kids decision was about returning to the Amish.

I did too! I just thought I missed it somehow. I hope they did go back.

It was tragic in every respect that innocent children and people were killed, no matter if they were Amish or not. However, they shouldn't be romanticized. We have the Amish in northern Indiana, and of course there is a big area in Pennsylvania, both of which I am familiar with. I would characterize them as "peaceful" and certainly hard-working and upright, but sweet? Never.

There are different sects. The ones I have encountered are more liberal, and I have had pleasant encounters with them. The stricter sects probably are not as open to encounters with anyone other other than Amish.

I read a headline the other day referring to an inmate who was tattood (sp?)with "Revenge of (victim's name)" on his forehead. I think some other inmates inked him. I think that should be SOP for sex offenders; as well as a POSTED sign in their yard (if they're free) designating them as such! As for this guy...he did the rest of us a favor by bitin' the bullet. Wish all of em would!
