Another low point for Obama

As if drowning us in debt is not enough, Obama is sinking the economy further into a regulatory quagmire:

He is ahead of the record pace of last year. And except for net neutrality Congress is not even trying to stop the tidal wave.

Rules and oversight are not necessarily bad things. I can think of several major catastrophes recently that would have been prevented with better or more rules.

They are a catastrophe if you are a small businessman trying to cut through them.

My small business is hurt far more by lack of regulations, than too many. Regulating oil drilling, emissions, and the banks helps me.

We could do with fewer rules overall and strict enforcement of them. Far too many loopholes, special cases, and outright stupid ones.

Ignore these new regulations, he's just doing this to annoy you.

No, if you ignore these new regulatiions, they'll send Eric Holder and the DOJ after you and we all know what that means!

That is disingenuous. Those regulations have been in effect for decades and no one wishes to repeal them. But the reams of new regulations that Obama is forcing on us are harming an already weak economy. There are some I would like to repeal, beginning with the tax code but I am sure you love devoting hours to figuring how the pages of IRS rules effect your business.

Which is in turn extremely disingenuous since there's a big move right now from House Republicans to cut FDA funding for food safety matters:

http://www.anh-usa.org/house-cuts-fda-budget-by-285-million/

http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/health/2005-02-14-fda-safety-usat_x.htm

The Food and Drug Administration's proposed budget for next year includes cuts to nearly all its inspection programs, from checks on imported food to reviews of overseas plants that make prescription drugs bound for the USA.

If Congress approves, the number of domestic food safety inspections made next year would fall by 5%, foreign drug plant inspections would drop 5.8% and checks on the nation's blood banks would be cut 4.7%, compared with estimated 2005 inspections.

When you are 14 trillion in debt even some good programs must be reduced. It is called hard choices. Maybe we can cut out Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS and replace the FDA's funding.

We could eliminate or cut back on the heavily armed Department of Education Office of Inspector General. From the Washington Post article "Education Department agents raids California home"

U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General special agents broke into a California home at 6 a.m. Tuesday and reportedly roughed up a man
...
In 2010, the Post’s Valerie Strauss reported that the Education Department was purchasing 27 Remington Brand Model 870 police 12-gauge shotguns to replace old firearms used by Education’s Office of Inspector General, which is the law enforcement arm of the department. DoE said the guns were necessary to help enforce “waste, fraud, abuse, and other criminal activity involving Federal education funds, programs, and operations.”

It seems like we have enough armed investigative people in the Dept of Justice. Why does DoE need their own armed, door kicking in unit?

Of course if we eliminated the whole DoE then this unit would go as well.

Man what a great idea! While we are eliminating the DoE we could also cut the DEA and the ATF and combine their legitimate functions into the FBI and the Secret Service. ICE could go as well and be combined with the Coast Guard.

Come on, guys! You can't do that! You'd be cutting costs and streamlining government functions and we all know you can't have that!:sarc:
