Any help for my friend???

I mentioned in another post, that a friend of mine was badly injured in a car wreck on Hwy 98, while exiting Wal-mart. Her name is Josi Hughes, and she is a 31 yr old working Mom. Josi had another car implanted into her left hip during that accident. She was T-boned by the other car, and which pushed her bones from the left side of her hip to the right side. She was air lifted to the hospital in Pensacola, and last week she underwent surgery. Today, I received the sweetest Thank You card from Josi. She is in good spirits, even though she is now sitting in a wheelchair. Josi hopes to be able to return to work in a few weeks so that she can try to start paying the bills. She has not asked for any help, but I am asking. It broke my heart to hear that she does not have health insurance. Her work did not provide full payment for the coverage so she opted not to pay the extra costs, and had no policy. I urge those of you who may not be covered to get covered today! However, that is not why I am writing. I ask you to say a little prayer for my friend. She needs any help she can get. Please send Josi a get well card, or if you want to help contribute to the account which is being created to help her offset some of the costs, please PM me and I will forward you her address and/or the instructions for any contributions. Even a get well package would be great. The bill for Josi's air flight from the wreck in Destin to Pensacola came in at a whopping $10,000. I understand that Josi is now staying with her parents, but her surgery and stay in the hospital will be somewhere around $60,000. Josi is an Administrative Assistant, and it will be a difficult amount for her to pay, so any help is greatly appreciated by both me as well as Josi and her family. A prayer, a get well card, $1, $5, $100, or something else -- it does not matter. She needs much help of any kind. Receiving a note of prayer and thoughts puts a smile on a face that goes a long way. Please think about Josi, and let her know that you are thinking of her. Again, PM me if you would like to help by contributing money to the fund that is being established to assist her in offsetting the costs of her injuries and I will forward you the instructions.

Done and done SJ. Health crises are bad enough. All the troubles that go with them are enough to send people over the edge.

By the way, what about the other driver? Insurance? Does she have a good lawyer?

Her (or the other persons) car insurance should be covering these bills. Your health insurance only steps in if there is no car insurance - please make sure she knows this.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts. I knew I could count on you guys to fill her thought box with good powerful stuff.

I, too, have thought about this, and hope to find out more, but I think it has been too sensitive an issue to discuss thus far. I don't know who was at fault, and whether they were actually insured, or if she has uninsured motorist coverage. Either way, she is still out of commission for a while, and has regular bills to pay. Her employer has jumped in and helped her with so much, providing a place for her parents to stay in Pensacola during her stay in the hospital as well as providing her with some flex pay benefits. I will try to find out more info and I will keep you posted. Thanks again!

Thanks to everyone!
I am still a little scared to ask Josi about all of the details. I understand that the driver of an SUV ran the red light and caused Josi to suffer two broken Hips, a shattered Pelvic bone, and a shattered left leg socket.

I found a photo of her before the accident, but want to take one of her with just as big a smile on her face after. Her two kids are about eight and ten, and are just as cute as Josi.

If anyone is up to a field trip this spring or summer, maybe Josi will be back at work in Destin, and you could pay her a visit. I sense many tears of joy will be falling.

... and yes, Josi is a single mom, but I don't think your wives will allow you to date her, RiverOtter and Landlocked. :funn:

Well, then, that would leave the privilege to you, now wouldn't it, SJ?

Wow, I feel missed! Spent the first half of the day with Littlest Pea and his classmates; a mom invited everyone over to hang out, it was nice.
Then we went to the mall to shop for a present for his Mimi's (my mom) birthday, did pickup #1 at school, came home, did pickup #2 at school...there's the day--gone!

WE HAVE A WINNER! :clap_1:
Again, I want to thank everyone who is sending some lovin' to Josi. It means so much to her. I have let her know that she will be receiving thoughts, prayers, love, notes, and money from many new friends. It would be impossible for me to track everyone who is thinking of her, but I thank you all.

As a way to have a little funn, and a small way to say thank you, for those of you who asked for instructions for sending money to offset Josi's expenses, I have placed your names in a hat for a drawing for a winter hat or scarf, knitted by yours truly. This morning, I removed one name from the hat -- PAULA! :clap_1: Congratulations and thank you!!! Being that you live in Michigan, I hope you don't freeze before I make it.
