So are we ready to get behind Barney Franks' HR 5843? The personal use of marijuana by responsible adults act of 2008 has bi-partisan support. I am a supporter of at least equalizing the penalties between marijuana use and alcohol consumption. They seem pretty equal to me as far as vices go. It doesn't seem in line with American values, let alone the Constitution, to jail someone for picking the flowers of a plant that can grow in the wild in Florida and smoking them. I read the press release today about the bill sponsored by Barney Frank, Democrat and Ron Paul, Republican and was suprised to read that there have been 20 million marijuana related arrests since 1965 and 11 million since 1990 with 1 arrest every 38 seconds. Another fact proferred was that marijuana arrests outnumber the arrests for all violent crimes combined. Is there anyone out there who actually wants more focus on marijuana than on violent crime?
