How do you know I didn't make one for ya already wench gull? ;-):clap_1: :clap_1:
I can make one out of Playdoh, bubblewrap, or dog hair. These materials are readily available at my house.
When I think about my growing up years...I don't think we had a lot of money. But, I didn't think we were poor. In fact, I don't have any memories associated with money and wheather or not we had any. Money was not something that was ever discussed openly in front of us kids. We had the clothes we needed...(I don't remember longing for the latest fashions). The thing I remember most is how much we loved one another and how much fun we had together. You have a warm heart and a warm home that friends and family are obviously drawn to!
As an adult, we have many friends with great wealth. They have expensive cars and magnificient homes. We have two nice cars and a lovely home, but somewhat modest when compared to the homes of our friends. We love these people dearly but, I have always wondered why it is that they are always at our house. We get together often because we love each other a great deal. But, it is more often than not at our house. I think we are truly blessed. When I think of what I would most like in this life, I think what I would hope for most, an open and loving heart.

Me Too!!!:clap_1: :clap_1: We need a new thread started in Nov. and need to see how many to make. Wish we could be together in person and exchange
like cookie parties. I also remember growing up with nothing. We were a govt assisted family. I remember living in a trailer by a large highway, cars breaking down on the side of the road, and the same thing to eat for days so there would be no waste. However because of the great country we live in my parents receive their education (both doctorates) and did well for themselves. NOTHING makes me angrier than people who jump to conclusions (and have on this board before) about those of us who live here are silver spoon fed all their lives. Some people may be, but that is ok, their ancestors down the road did what many of our parents did. Thanks for this thread, it really makes a person think about how fortunate we all really are.

I agree, and I really hope that isn't how you interpreted my comment. I don't think that most people on this board, or that live in SoWal, were silver spoon fed. I think what I was trying to say was, (and sorry if it came out wrong), that our idea of poverty in this country would be considered fabulously rich in some other countries. Even those of us (and we got govt assistance at times, too..) who grew up "poor" had resources to get enough to keep us from starving to death.
Anyway. Ornament exchange.

I totally relate to everything you said here. especially being raised with no real knowledge of whether we had money or not. I think we had just enough money to live comfortably but frugally, for a family of 6. We had toys, but not loads and loads of them (like our kids do). when we got new toys it was very very special. Our extended family was very much part of our daily lives (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins, etc). It was all good. Except for the spankings (they used to do spankings back then too - I didn't like it, still don't).
Living in sowal is an entirely different kind of lifestyle, but many of us are still just regular folks.
An open and loving heart, and only kindness in our words and actions - this is the key. thank for reminding me... I try to think of this same mantra each day.
